Questions about buy Win7 Ultimate

It comes with both a 32 and 64 Bit copies. Can I install those on two separate computers? Also can this be bought with the college student discount?

I can't answer your question accurately, since i haven't paid for an OS since Win98SE.

However, here's a link that might prove handy.

http://support.microsoft.com/

And another:

I'm not going to be buying Win7, so you can use my student link. I looked into it though and it is the home version. It's either 32 or 64, not both.

I've been running Win7RC1 on my laptop since Spring and have been pretty happy with it. Now were using Win7 here at work and I'm satisfied that it's stable. Reason I'm looking into it is I'd like to run a 64 Bit version on my main Desktop and on my secondary I'd like to be able to assign Group Policies to further lock it down as it's the computer I have guests and kids using it. Appreciate the offer though, I've got my brother in law letting me use his email address.

It comes with both copies but they share the same serial number so you're not Supposed to install them on separate computers. I'm not sure how 7 works but I used to have XP installed on about 6 computers with the same key.

The key is only good for one installation. So if you install the 32 bit version first and register it, then try to register the 64 bit version, the activation system will see that you are using the same key on two computers and deactivate the 32 bit version.

Thanks guys, that's what I wanted to know. Magnus appreciate your "comments". If you can't offer anything helpful than don't reply.

I don't think Microsoft has ever supported dual licensing with OS's (I could be wrong, as I only have done licensing with XP and Server 03 and up.) Unless you own a volume license, it's one license per processor, or one per machine.

But as stated above, you can call and have the "limit" they set on your license removed. I always tell them the same white lie of "I had to reinstall Windows after my processor blew up..." I don't think it really matters what you tell them exactly, but I never had an issue calling them to reset/remove the limit.

As far as getting a discount through your student status, I can't see why you wouldn't be able to purchase one through your college. I purchased Vista, Server 03 Enterprise, Web Server 03, XP, Vista, and many others when they were available, but it may be a per college thing, and not a Microsoft thing.

Good luck, and enjoy Windows 7!

The last one I talked to wasn't too bad. Of course I chuckled a lil bit when he said his name was [Apu voice] Bob [/Apu voice]. He spoke clearly, must be second generation New Delhi phone support.

I've deactivated/reactivated 4 or 5 keys in the last month (getting some licensing issues in order at work) and have never talked to anyone overseas. Enterprise support must be handled differently.

The college discount program will get you Home Premium or Professional. It has both versions in the box but the key is for either, not both.

There is a torrent floating around of a preactivated copy of Ultimate that a "friend" told me about that installs just fine and updates with no issues.

That would be from BIE. I can confirm that the x86 copy works, but the x64 does not, BUT you can activate your copy with a loader, like this one

Another quick question that I couldn't find apparent. Are these full versions or upgrades? One more day left on the discounts.
