Help me pick a new computer.

My 5 year old Dell ain't what she used to be. The only thing I know about computers is how to turn them on and surf. I'll only use it for checking e-mail, and general surfing like youtube and such. I already have a monitor ect, ect and I don't want to build one. Just need the tower.

If all ur doing is turning it on and off, and surfing... I'd say it really doesnt matter what kind u go with. They will all do that. You had ur dell for 5 years? Why not get another Dell then?

P.S. Wrong forum!

Go look on http://www.newegg.com they have some good deals on pre built systems.

They've done studies you know.... 60% of the time, it works every time

What's your budget and do you prefer pre-built or "custom"?

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

In my personal experience desktops are far more reliable and longer lasting than a laptop, with that said my personal preference is a desktop. Don't get me wrong, I use to take my laptop with me, check the internet at random places, get on random people's networks, take it to my friend's house, etc. But I much prefer having a desktop.
This is just a random link, but newegg is the place to shop for computers, parts, etc.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883114078

Less than $400, gets you a dual core processor, plenty of ram, 750GB hard drive, windows 7, etc. If all you're doing is surfing etc, this will do fine.

I know a lot of people say Emachines suck, but I had one that I paid lke $300 for about 4 or 5 years ago, finally died so I got parts from Newegg and built a new one. For the price, Emachines are pretty damn good!

Thanks for the responses everyone.

My computer now is just VERY SLOW!! It used to be extremely fast but has just crapped out over time in that dept. I have performed a disk defrag, deleted cookies, deleted cache, deleted temp files and it still runs like crap. Any advice?

yes. back up your personal stuff (music, movies, pictures, documents, favorites)

throw in a windows XP disk, boot it up, format and reinstall windows. it will be as fast as it was before.

If you are just looking for a desktop, you can pick up a $200-300 that will do everything you are looking to do. The most basic one should do waht you want.

Here you go:

I would do as others here have suggested and just reinstall Windows and make sure after you do that install a good Anti Spyware and Anti Virus. Maybe even up the RAM to whatever the max is that the computer will allow. Unless you just want to buy a new computer. If all you do is surf the web I wouldn't spend money on a new computer.
