Question about the I phone....

The wife is going to be picking me up a new i phone for christmas and was wanting to know if I wanted the 3G of 3GS. I know nothing about these phones and only started looking at them yesterday. Can anyone school me on the differences, advantages & disadvantages between the two. Also is there any need to go any larger than the 16 gig? Purpose of jail breaking? Any insight is much appreciated.

No problems with mine. Had a 2G a couple of years back and it worked fine to.

I have the 3G I wish i would have gotten the 3GS... I compared them side by side and besides the 3GS having video I believe it also has voice dial and it is also faster.

Don't forget the GPS which I can't live without now that I've gotten used to it on my past couple of phones.

my wife had a 16gb 3g and she now has a 32gb 3gs (as do i). the 3gs seems to be a little faster to load apps, and i found this out by loading the same apps on both, side by side, before selling the 3g. it's not a significant improvement, but it is a slight improvement. if you didn't have them side by side, it's not something that you would notice, so take that for what it's worth. the 3gs does have video as well as voice dial, but you can get "cycorder" on the 3g if you jailbreak it. if those items are worth the extra amount (whatever that amount may be), then get the 3gs...if not, get the 3g. they're both great phones. if you want to wait another 6 months or so, i'm sure that there will be a new one out (possibly 4g) and i'm sure that the 3gs will drop in price and the new one will likely have some options that the 3gs doesn't.
