Boot up error.

Co-worker of mine is having trouble booting up their laptop and their getting a blue screen error. It's a c0000218 Registry File Failure saying the hive file :\systemroot\system32\config\software is either missing, corrupt, or can't be accessed. I've tried F8 and starting with the last good configuration as well as booting in safe mode but neither has worked. Any ideas?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Thx, I'll give that a try.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

TBH, everything I've read says this ultimately ends in a format/reinstall. I worked on one w/ the same issue 6-8 months ago and ended up slaving the drive to recover data then reinstalled.

If you don't have the key to get it activated use produkey.

Its best to reinstall. I fixed one one time but 3 months later, failed again. Replaced the HD actually.
