Windows 7 upgrade question.

I just bought a refurbished pc that comes with vista home premium 64 pre-installed. I had already bought windows 7 professional ahead of time and I just found out that this pc is eligible for the windows 7 home premium upgrade for free.

Ok, my question is, if I install my new windows 7 pro on this new computer, can I use the upgrade disk that will come in the mail on another computer instead of this one? Or are the upgrade discs "locked" to just this one?

It's a Gateway pc by the way.

I hope this makes sense....

You should be able to use that upgrade disc on any computer with Vista home already on it.

The Windows 7 upgrade disc will only work on one machine. When you install and activate, it will lock itself to your hardware configuration. Trying to install and activate same disc/product key on a different machine will most likely fail or be invalidated.

You can use your old copy on any computer. If you run into any problems, just call Microsoft and they will fix it for your.

The upgrade is compatible with any old Microsoft version. If you have say XP 32bit, you will have to do a fresh install but the upgrade disc should be able to do that.
