8800 GT Alpha Dog SLI or GTX260/275?

On the warpath again with my PC. Currently have an E8500 3.16GHz stuck to an ECS G33T-M2 Mobo (get to that in a sec) 4 GB Corsair 800MHz memory and a 500 GB 7200 RPM Sata Drive

The big thing is I have 3 8800GT's Alpha Dog editions in three different computers. I am thinking of scrapping one (the slowest is an E6550 with only 2 GB of 667 memory) and taking the 8800GT in that and SLI'ing it with the 8800GT AD in my current computer.

Secondly, I doubt my ECS board supports SLI

A) Would going from an ECS board to a higher end board increase my performance by itself (seems like my north bridge just cant keep up anymore - odd freezes as it unloads the last program from memory 5 - 10 seconds)

B) Would SLI'ing the two 8800's together be better than purchasing a 260GTX or 275GTX?

I've never even messed with SLI...input from other PC gamers.

And I am upgrading because Battlefield Bad Company 2 is coming out in March and they state it is a "future-proof" game...meaning it's gonna run like crap on most of today's hardware if it was anything like GTA IV's "future-proof" technology

New mobo couldn't hurt, if your running everything at stock speeds your not going to see a huge difference in performance by upgrading and GTX275 > SLI 8800's (although if look at ati's latest lineup, ie 5770).

I have a qx9650 with a 260, and my wife uses my old e8400 with sli'd 8800gt's. Keeping in mind the difference in processors, the 260 outperforms the 8800's, although in games I cant tell a difference.

That's all I am really looking for. I dont really mind the lag in the memory unload, but If I can get some extra performance, i was going to jump to a newer card.

I guess I will wait until some more DX11 cards get out there to even out the price range then jump on one.

One more question though...Going from a single 8800GT to 2 8800's..big difference?

15% or so and it also depends on how well the games can scale multiple gpu's.

I had the same 8800 card and I bought a GX260, I can tell a good difference between them. Also, I was able to use my 8800 by having it do the Physx processing. Go do nvidia's website and see what it will do for you.

No, you can run the 260 as your main graphics card and set a second gpu for as a dedicated physx processor.

Ah, so just use the GX260 as my main "Everything on the screen" GPU and then just have the 8800 plugged in not attached and the CPU uses it's resources to do some other stuff?
