Windows 7 is out!

Go get it! Available from Newegg. Or for $35 if you are attending a University!

I can't believe that Microsoft still insists on people using IE to access their downloads. I just went to get my free upgrade and got this:

Quote:
Non IE page

* You must use Internet Explorer as your browser to place order. If Internet Explorer is not your default browser, you can find it in your list of installed programs by clicking the Windows Vista START button.

I've had the RTM for several months now since MSDN subscribers were allowed to download. Loving it.

Below the Pre-Order button, there should be a yellowish box that says "Need to join your schoolís network domain? You can also get Windows 7 Professional for $29.99 Click here"

what does "ultimate" have that pro doesn't? i know that i should probably just do a search and find out, but i'm sure that one of you can list the items that are useful...

*edit*

i only found these two differences...here: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/win...e/default.aspx

1. Help protect data on your PC and portable storage devices against loss or theft with BitLocker.

2. Work in the language of your choice and switch between any of 35 languages.

anything else? i need to find out what "bitlocker" is, to see if that's anything that i'd use...but i only plan on working on my computer in english, so the multiple languages thing doesn't appeal to me.

Had to update to internet explorer 8 before windows recognized there was an update to SP1. What a bunch of crap.

I did find out though, for you guys that got the upgrade download... if you run the .exe, you get a folder on that is the directory for the dvd that would have been mailed if you got the copy. It unpacks the DVD into the folder...so just burn the files and you have a bootable dvd copy

I need to see if I can get that running on a hackintosh, haven't even tried yet.

Leopard works pretty good, no issues so far, other than shutdown/restart problems caused by Nvidia kexts.

Windows 7 is loaded dual boot with it, and on my primary desktop at home, upgrade ran just fine, just took it a bit to transfer settings.

I gotta admit it is probably the coolest/best MS OS to date. From my perspective it is slicker/smoother then Vista, with enough changes to make it worth the effort. Pretty damned nice.
