Clear (ISP)

A buddy of mine recently informed me of this new ISP called "clear". He mentioned that It was going to be available here in the Dallas area next month. He also claimed it does not have any DL or UL restrictions?

Anyone here ever heard of it?

LOL! It used to be Clearwire and it's 4G mobile wimax. I wouldn't get my hopes up thinking it'll be available here next month. It might be and I may be wrong, but Clearwire never does anything right. It is pretty fast tho for a mobile solution.

Yes, it will be available next month as well as through another MSO provider...It actually works quite nicely..

It does work well. Or at least it did when we were on the deployment team last year. We were seeing 8Mbps down/3Mbps up all over DFW. I'm not sure how much it's changed since then, but I suspect they'll probably put a cap on it since Baltimore/Washington DC was capped at 2Mbps down/1.5Mbps up. Clearwire has started, stopped, restarted, frozen, etc... the deployment efforts several times. DFW's 4G was supposed to be live this time last year at 50% capacity but you see where it is now: still waiting.

Because it was originally deployed by the Sprint XOHM group. Sprint XOHM merged with Clearwire and they decided to refer to themselves as Clear. Sprint still has a 51% stake in the 4G network along with investments from Google, Intel, Comcast, Time Warner, etc.
