You can get 50 down / 20 up through Verizon FIOS if you wanted to pay for it.

BTW...here's mine over the wireless connection. (FIOS 25/15 plan)

Your download is also dependant on the server/peer hosting the file. If they are swamped, it will take longer to download.

1. That looks like DS3 speeds, which you likely cannot afford at home.

2. Verizon FIOS and ATT Uverse are the 2 best things going for home Internet connectivity.

I'd be happy with 5mb down and 3mb up.

My results:

5.33mb Down
1.07mb Up.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Here are the speeds I get out of my office. 10gig like out to TW Telecom.

Here is a Docsis 3.0 4/1 cable modem connection:

An 8/4 docsis connection would do 343/122 in theory. Just waiting on the infrastructure.

Generally a T1 is 1.544/mbps in the telco world. So it could only be a T1 but I would think your upload would be closer to your DL speeds.

What all is in involved with that connection? I thought it was just a newer cable modem.

It's the infrastructure. I think we just got converted over to 800mhz docsis 2.0... which has much, much faster limits than what we currently have. In the current cable modem infrastructure we have now, it should be able to compete with fiber for quite some time. It's in the providers best interest to throttle your speed to whatever is competitive.

Yeah, well, this is what happens when the office moves and the "higher-ups" decide to go with a different provider (read lower cost) instead of sticking with what worked really well.

Our old connection was a bonded T1 and the download was (I think) around 30Mbps. With that connection, I would never have to deal with streaming radio or youtube having to rebuffer. Now it's an everyday occurence.

Hmm on my 3g internet here in Colombia i get 1.4 down and .20 up

Thats faster than my DSL i had in Cali... The US is way behind on this whole 3g shit...
Here we have 3g internet country wide and its about 70,000 pesos a month for unlimited.. 35-38.00 for those wondering what the exchange rate is.

Hell i'm on a prepaid unlimited plan for 41.00 a month.. and the connection is good enough to download most movie torrents in a day and still talk on my vonage VOIP phone.

I saw Tmobile has 3g internet for 50.00 a month +TTL and its limited to 5gb up/down. thats some bullshit right there.
