If you want a blu-ray and don't have one. The PS3. Otherwise, I'd go with the 360.

I don't play xbox online a lot because I don't have any good online games for it, but I've heard it's more dependable. You might have to pay $50 for 13 months of service but games aren't dropped as often as they are on PS3, which I can say is a LOT. I do love the streaming netflix through my xbox. I also do all of my call of dutying on the PS3. They're both great systems, but xbox has more exclusives that I enjoy so if I didn't have access to both (ps3 is my roommates), I'd go with the xbox.

If you already have the internet at your house you can either hardwire using a cat-5 cable or buy a wireless router. Unfortunately for wireless on the xbox, you have to go buy a wireless adapter for the xbox. Fortunately, wireless sucks and hardwired is the way to go. To connect to xbox live, I think you just create your xbox live account and it'll have an option to go "gold" which means you'll be able to play online for $50 and it lasts 13 months. You just use a credit card and it's a one time billing. It won't automatically bill you again when the 13 months is up.

no that is just the membership. you have to have internet service to begin with, and you have to buy the adapter separate.

Yeah. It's kinda an upfront beating. I actually had mine for over a year before going out and buying the stuff. The good thing about the PS3 is it's basically ready to go, but again you deal with dropped games, frame skipping. It's not horrible, but definitely there.

Damn. You just threw me for a loop there. No computer?

Yeah, you'd have to call some internet provider and make sure they offer service in your area. I recommend at least cable internet and have them put the jack close to where you plan on putting the xbox. Run the cat-5 cable from the wall jack to the back of the system and you should be good.

In case you don't know, cat-5 is not the same as phone cable. You can go to any electronics store and they'll know what you're talking about. Hell, if you're lucky, the guy that installs your interweb might have an extra cable in his van/truck.

Sometime next month, I'm getting a PS3 slim. I just want it for the bluray player. I'm sticking with my 360 for games.

(ok, I'll still play an occasional game on the PS3.)

BTW, here's a way to get a new PS3 slim for $199.00

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...&id=178109&u=1

Basically, you get the Playstation VISA (from Chase) and buy your PS3 with it. They then give you a $100 credit. Then you cancel the card and everyone is happy

You're right that the PS3 pictured is not a slim. However this isn't a coupon that applies to a PS3. It is an credit applied after a $299 purchase from the SonyStyle store. The PS3 pictured was just an example (an old one at that). The PS3 slim is $299, so you can get it for $199...

FYI.

I went ahead and did this.

If you do so, they will approve you online. If approved, you will get your Credit Card number and CCV number (security number from the back of the card) from a pop up window. Make sure you write those numbers down.

Once you have the account info, you need to create a SonyStyle.com account (if you don't already have one). Then purchase the 80GB or 120GB(slim) PS3 for $299. Sales tax will be charged. Standard shipping is free.

Your card will be charged for the full $299. The Credit card is supposed to give back the $100.

I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I'm planning to pay off the card and cancel it as soon as I get the PS3 in my hands.

I don't have a problem with games dropping off very often on the PS3 -- I have problems with people quitting in the middle of a football game or golf match from time to time, but that's about it.

Online play on the 360 is great. Every single time I drop a game it is from two things. Either other players dropping or my cable internet dropping me. I've yet to see a dropped gaming session due to the XBox itself.

It could be our connection. It seems to happen in spurts. Sometimes it works fine, and sometimes I'll have to go through three or four matches before I get pissed, quit, wait an hour, and try again with success.

Does your router have a log file? You may be able to see if your connection is being dropped. You might want to check with your ISP. You should also make sure the firmware on your router is up to date.

Also, a device on your network could potentially be causing an issue. You can try playing with all other devices disconnected.

i say go with both , i use my PS3 for movies and xbox for gaming. most of my friends have the 360 so thats prolly the biggest reason why I'm with 360 for gaming. I use to be all about the playstation until i got introduce to Halo.
