Left the laptop on and when it came back from sleep mode and it would not boot up. It goes through the windows and toshiba screen, but then it flashes the blue screen and restarts over and over. Some quick googling and it sounds like the laptop can't boot up from the hard drive. I don't have an XP home disk, but I got my hands on an XP Pro disk. I don't know how much good this will do me if I don't want to wipe out my hard drive just yet.
1) Any ideas on this "Unmountable boot volume" error?
2) Whats the easiest way to retrieve information from the hard drive if it won't boot up?
It's a five year old toshiba laptop running windows XP....TIA
Could be your IDE, or SATA port is bad. However your HD is connected to the Motherboard on your pc.
If you want to see if the HD is bad, take it out, and connect it to another pc. If you can't figure out how to do that then you probably don't know know how to remove the HD. If you still have the same error then your partition is bad, or the whole HD.
