PS3 price drop, new PS3 Slim released September

So I just stumbled across this lovely tidbit, now I might actually buy one. Anyone know if the PS3 Slim will be PS2 game backward compatible?

Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T), IEEE 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0 (+EDR)

Does that mean it has wifi or not? I am way behind on technology. 802.11 is wifi right?

LOL, I just got my 80GB Bundle yesterday. Can't return it b/c I got it off ebay. I'm happy though, it came with the MLB 09 & Quantam of Solace Blue Ray for $330 DLVD.
Still cracks me up how Sony did this, the regular systems are already cheaper everywhere

Damn and I just bought a refurb backwards compatible 60 gig'r a couple weeks ago! Owell!

I highly doubt they will be backwards compatible. At this time you cant buy a new PS3 that will be backwards compatible unless its old stock. Thats why I got a refurb'd unit from gamestop. Only problem is gamestop knows they are BC and charge a premium for it. I paid $399 for a refurb 60 gig model. Hard drive changes on PS3's are stupid easy! Just use a SATA laptop hard drive and pop it in, select yes when the PS3 asks to format and your done.

I would love a slim version though but I can wait.

Do you drink beer from a bucket?

Of course not. 802.11b is pretty much compatible with EVERYONE and your PS3 will never use anywhere close to the limits of b let alone n.

i know the PS3 has been getting pounded in market share. A lot of the pundits are pointing out this is being viewed as more a desperation move, but one thats definately needed.

IIRC, the ps3 slim will NOT be backwards compatible. Its just one of the numerous things they deleted to save costs...

meh... I'll stick with my big phat ps3. They need to quit making shit smaller and figure out a way to make the ps3 filesystem compatible with something better than FAT32. I want to copy my bluray "backup images" to the PS3 HDD via usb. Im tired of having to share the files across the network.

And then I messed up and copied one over, deleted it from the pc... and now I cant copy it off the ps3 to the pc or usb. I dont wanna delete it tho cause I still want the copy.

Yup the slims are already available. My buddy pre-ordered through gamestop, they fucked up the order so he cancelled and went in and bought one from a local gamestop cash. This was yesterday BTW.

Just picked one up at gamestop tonight with trading in my ps2 slim and some games. I mostly got it for bluray player, but also the occational game. It was nice to get it down to the $200.00 mark with trade ins!

was gonna get one and now decided against it. I only really wanted it for a blu ray player and possible gaming, but I don't need 3 game systems.

IMO, software and gaming selection goes to the 360 but hardware deffinetly goes to the PS3. If they could improve PSN to compete with XBL then it would be a close race and if they could get some good games then it wouldnt even be a contest.

Just download a demo on the 360 and then go download one on the PS3 and the difference will be obvious.
