X clamp mod, google it. You'll void your warranty but the problem is MS in all their wisdom use shitty thermal paste. Use some good Artic Silver II.

RED RING OF DEATH

I'm on my third 360. I'm not sure if I had 3 red lights or just 2 but mine crapped out twice on me. Buy a PS3 that's your best bet....

mine got the ring of death and i spent $15 at home depo. removed the x clamps and replaced them with nylon spacers and screws to move the heat sinks away from the motherboard. The red lights happen when the board twist..... easy fix and my xbox has had no problems since

Well fuck! This thread must have jinxed me cause my x-clamp modded 360 just went out on my wife! She just called and its toast again. I have been toying with the idea of getting a new elite anyway just for the HDMI port and bigger HD so maybe its a blessing but it would have been nice to get the $100 on tade in from gamestop.

Yeah whatever the newest stuff is. I thought it was II but I dont use it enough to remember. Either way Artic Silver is better than the crap MS uses.

hot box it.. usually fixes it. I would avoid the fridge idea, that will cause condensation, and might almost certainly destroy it.

Why don't you just report it on xbox.com and they'll send you another unit for free? Sure, you'll be without an xbox for a week and a half, but it's worth not fucking yours up more, and then when you realize that you don't know how to fix it, you've just voided your warranty.

Did you take the xbrace out, and use spacers instead?

I didnt use arctic silver...

every once in a while the 360 will over heat...ill loosen the heat sinks...then power on...then power off and tighten them back up...and it will work for about a week...then it will start over heating again...WTF
