Macbook Pro Owners, where are you?

Im planning to get the 13" macbook pro, i have the option to get the geeksquad 2 year protection plan, would it be worth the $299 price tag to get the Protection Plan, seems steep for 2 years.

You're going to fall on one of two sides of the fence: pissed that you didn't buy it because of ludicrous repair costs or pissed that you did buy it because it performed flawlessly.

If it was for 3 years it'd be a no brainer, but 2 is iffy. I've seen the repair bills for out of warranty work on a Macbook Pro, though, and it's not pretty.

That has happened on both sides for me, but the thing that gets me is the 2 year thing, i would do it hands down for at least 3 years for that price

Overpriced? Yes.

Overrated? Not at all. Phenomenal machines (coming from a Windows dude), just not worth the extra expense to me.

No, not slower. As quick or quicker in some instances. No need to worry about viruses (for now). Quite reliable.

If you're starting a business with it you've just got to look at the cost; you can get a machine running Windows with similar capabilities for less than half the price in some cases. What are you trying to do with it?

I bought the 3 year accidental coverage but I guess they don't offer it anymore. I've had minor issues like the keypad and built in webcam that was fixed fairly quickly. On top of that it covers up to 1 battery a year if I remember correctly. Seemed worth it to me.

I love it o far and will most likely stick with Macs. Smooth running system and they haven't had a virus on a Mac in like 6 years (at least thats what I read on multiple forums before I bought it). They use high quality parts and is a good all around computer. The only downside is compatibility issues every once in a while. Fortunately, this can easily be fixed with other programs or having to shell out more $ for a certain program.

I have a Macbook pro and I love it! I couldnt handle the 13 though, I got the 17. Yes they are pricey, but I design a lot and would not do it on a PC. I think I paid like 160 for my protection plan, through a small apple store in Dallas. I can look them up again if you would like to check them out. Let me know.

I use a PC with both my businesses. A good anti virus, and a external hard drive (which you should get no matter the computer you buy) is all I need. I haven't had a problem.

I'm just waiting for some bored hacker/virus maker to make a deadly virus for macs, it just seems like all those mac commercials do is taunt people like that. If I knew how I'd do it.

when I got mine I didn’t go with the extra protection plan and I bought it from best buy too...

I am on the side of the fence that I would be pissed if I paid extra 300 for nothing… in two years I’ll be ready for a new laptop anyway..

But the Mac Book is a good call! I love mine and have been a PC guy for a long time.. still like my PC but LOVE my Mac Book

that seems really high for the protection plan, shop around some

I have a 13" and its been absolutely great. I went with the smaller one because I really wanted the portability. Battery life is good, under light use (web browsing etc.) I get ~5 hours, using a lot of system resources it drops below 3 hours. If you need windows I run XP through fusion and it works great, and much more convienent than dual booting. The multitouch touchpad is one of my favorite things, I hardly ever use a mouse with this laptop and I hate touchpads.

The Good:
-Small and light
-Backlit keyboard is nice
-Good battery life
-LED screen
-OS X
-Very well built and solid
-Mag Safe power connector (has saved my laptop from several disasters)
-Multitouch touchpad!!!
-Pretty good sound/volume compared to other laptops (reall clean, low noise headphone out)

The Bad:
-Cost
-The 13" model only has a reflective screen, which bugs some people, but its actual glass so it doesn't scratch and its easy to keep clean. (I think the 17" has a matte screen option)
-In a bit of form over function design, the only vent is where the screen is hinged which causes them to run hot. Under heavy use I've seen temps of nearly 80*c per istat, and since its made of aluminum the case gets pretty warm. Under normal use its ~45*c but even the high temp readings seem to be normal for these laptops and it hasn't caused any problems for me.

I have 13 macbook pro and i love it. Its the first mac i purchased. When you buy a mac it already come with one year repair the apple care is for 3 years. You dont have to buy it when you purchase your mac you can wait a year and then do it, but you will loose the over the phone tech support after the 90 days. i waited 89 days before i purchased the plan.

Buy it from Fry's, the 2 and 3 year protection plan is much, much cheaper. And yes I do work there, feel free to come to the Dallas (NW Hwy) store and ask for me and I will be happy to help you out and make sure you get good service.

You'll love it. I've got a 2.5 year old the 15.4" MBP. Normally I get a new laptop every other year but this one is going to be with me for 3 to 4 years. It doesn't feel like it has slowed up one bit either.

Maybe I'll think about getting a replacement MBP in a year but right now Apple hasn't done anything to make me want to upgrade from my current notebook.

I think these things are worth every friggin dime.
