My parents bought this laptop for me last Christmas, and the computer store they bought it from took Vista off, and put XP on. Well after trying to find drivers for my built in WIFI, I read that Compaq no longer supports rolling back to XP. My WIFI went out a while back, and I can't get that shit to turn on.
I decided to put vista back on it, and everything went ok, but then maybe the 3rd time I started the computer up. (2 weeks later) The laptop will start but after 30 seconds restart. When in Safe mode it doesn't reboot on its own.
You need the install disk the laptop came with. Chances are, when you re-installed vista, all the drivers were not available for that laptop, or they are not installed properly. Compaq may be able to mail one to you, but you will probably have to pay a descent amount for it.
i have the recovery disk for the laptop. i am talking about vista crashing and rebooting
The usual cause of a crash with vista is a bad driver... Try updating your drivers first, (Video, chip set, sound, nic, wireless, etc.) Not a vista expert, but in my experience it seems to be really picky with video drivers
