Any Palm Pre owners?

I decided to go with the Palm Pre over the iPhone this weekend. Phone is on a week back order (as expected) but I'm stoked. Anyone else own one?

I'll let you know what I think of it. I've watched/read about 15 reviews comparing the pre to the iphone and I like what I see.

I am sure it takes more than a second to even figure out how to use it.

that's like the quintessential iphone user statement. "I picked it up and looked at it, didn't really do anything, decided I don't like it because I just like my iphone."

had to find humor in that. The pre has very good reviews, it has several advantages over the iphone, but gives a few up in the process as well.

I've got one and love it. Plus they released the Mojo SDK on yesterday so apps should be comming soon.

They say you cant use it as an Ipod anymore but i haven't updated mine so i can confirm that. but know that the SDK is out someone will find a way to make it work again.

I've got a lot of good info off of www.precentral.net about it as well

edit: didn't see you posted their review CJ

I have one(just a toy) and my GF has one. She loves it. I use doubletwist for the music/video sync. The only thing I don't like is not many apps for it. Once they start getting some apps, it will over come the iphone. the multitasking is epic

Is your Treo using WM 5 or 6 or 6.1 or 6.5...basically any Windows Mobile?

Pre is built off of WebOS based on Linux...no freezing for anyone anymore.

I wished the Iphone had that. I'm sure they will add it eventually and act like it's the greatest thing since sliced bread and they came up with an entirely new concept.

The treo is a POS compared to the pre, I had one as well. The Pre is really a magnificent tool, I'm amazed actually.

I listened to the advice from you guys and I bought a pre. I kinda wish I didn't. I have several things I don't like about it.
1 It doesn't ring real loud when you get a text message or any other notification.
2 It doesn't have as many programs for it and prolly wont ever
3 I heard the programs cant use sound for input so that counts out Shazam or whatever its called
4 the battery doesn't last very long at all.

I turned mine back in after two weeks due to the same issues above PLUS:

5) It stayed in Roam while at my house.
6) I have dude hands, so the little keyboard sucked.
7) Not many customization options at all.
8) Sprint sucks. They have some of the worst customer service I have even seen. I have been a customer for 12 years but that ends very soon.

for the four hours I played with one, I agree. I believe once more apps are available the multitasking alone will be one of the main reasons for me to switch from the iphone.

Also the speakerphone is better, the iphone's speakerphone is lacking.

Oh yeah, sprint is the gayness at my house.

Nope. You can just unlock dev mode and do whatever you want. I'm running about 15 homebrew apps on mine right now

like omg, you have to jailbreak, oh noes!!1! i jailbroke 2 iphones at my gym last night while i was drinking my protein shake (this includes obtaining the proper firmware and jailbreaking software), donít tell anyone, but you donít have to be a l33t hax0r

based on the rate that apple is snatching up market share (and considering that programs work across all generations 99% of the time), which platform would you want to develop for?

2.8% to 13.3% from Q2 2008 to Q2 2009! that kind of momentum is hard to stop, especially considering that it doesnít tell the full story...

Apple brought its much-anticipated new device ó the iPhone 3G S ó to market at the end of the second quarter of 2009, but its full potential will only start to show in the sales figures in the second half of 2009.
Not to mention the compatibility of the iPod/iPhone, how many cars do you know of that come pre-wired for a palm-pre, mytouch, or blackberry?

sure, i agree, a non-jailbroken iPhone is not the greatest, but once they are opened up they are the best out there currently. great hardware, great firmware (esp. when jailbroken), great compatibility, tons of accessories, and a HUGE fan base with tons of developers.

No need for prewiring as they are blue tooth so they are pretty much universal. Ford Sync, heard of it? I can BT my TP and play music right from it but my co worker has to plug in his iphone to play music. Hell, he has to plug it in anyways cause battery life barely lasts a full day for him. what is the best phone if you want:

to text a lot
google maps(does not have to be turn by turn gps, just regular google maps like on a computer)
some internet use
good camera/camcorder

i am not into adding apps so i could care less about that. i don't need lightning fast internet, i have sprint but i don't think my phone is 3g and the speed it has is fine. just curious...

sorry for hijacking your thread CJ

i'm done with sprint. between the cost, spotty service and 160 characters per txt(huuuuge pet peeve of mine) i'm going somewhere else. i've had them for a long time but i've finally gotten tired of it and am gonna move on.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the 160 character text max is universal. Stop writing novels as text messages.

ummm...no it isn't. sprint and i think verizon are the only ones that use the 160 max. i know att and tmobile don't have a 160 max

i don't write novels, i just write complete sentences without using short word like "wat u doin 2day aftr wrk im guna go ridin". i hate that shit, it's so fucking annoying. it takes me longer to read and understand that shit than it would if it was written out correctly

Odd... I work for ATT..

Edit: you and I may be talking about two different things. The length of a text message is 160 characters but many phones allow you to continue into a second (or third or fourth etc....) message without opening a new one.

That is what I'm talking about. It will show up as one long text message but if it's 500 characters it will count against your plan as 4 messages.

It's only important if you don't have unlimited messaging.

OMG, YOU HAVE TO PLUG IT IN SOMETIMES???? Let me get this straight, you are claiming that bluetooth connected smart phones running stereo output to head units doesnít drain batteries? HA, that is a joke, bluetoothing stereo KILLS batteries on smartphones (I have buddies with different smartphones and bluetoothing universally kills batteries), thus if you are going any considerable distance you would want to plug the phone into a charger, which begs the question, why not have hardwired music/charge capability, oh yeah, thatís right, cause nobody supports those other devices. Secondly, jailbroken iPhones have complete bluetooth capability, so if you are stuck on not plugging in the option do not do so is there. Third, hard wired not only charges the phone, but it also provides better sound quality then bluetooth. Lastly, you mentioned one car that comes with that capability, I can give you quite a few that come standard iPod ready and even more that offer optional iPod/iPhone interface kits from the manufacturer. Not to mention the TONS of aftermarket radios that offer it and easily installable kits to retrofit older cars to iPod capable. About the battery life, my 3GS doesn't do badly at all. Been off the charger since 6:30am and I have 81% battery life. By the time I get out of here at the end of the day it'll be around 65-70%, on my drive home where god forbid, I have to PLUG IT IN!!! it'll get up to about 95% in the 25mins it takes to get home, then I plug it in when I go to sleep and it usually has 70%+ charge. But wait, when I do go out of town and need extra battery, I take my InCase PowerSlider which offers me an extra 150% battery life and just looks like a bulky iPhone case. Do they make a PowerSlider for whatever POS you keep talking about (please donít tell me you mean the LG TP phone, hardly comparable to what we are talking about here). On a final note, as far as applications they work on all generations with a very few exceptions that rely on GPS which the first gen did not have. And I'd like to see where you get your 85% blind sheep stat from, if you are going to try to come off as knowledgeable at donít resort to completely unfounded statistics please.

Lastly, I donít even like Apple, matter of fact the only Apple thing I own is my iPhone, but it really is a great phone when jailbroken, and I have buddies with the Pre, Curve, MyTouch, and even Nokia's top line smart phone. They all have something about them that turns me off, the iPhone is a really great package.

I got a headache trying to read this, but basically you have no idea what you're talking about because TP=Touch Pro, meaning it runs on windows mobile, which none of your friends have on their phones?

show me some type of comparison between a jailbroken iphone 3gs vs. the htc touch pro, there isnt one, and if there was the htc would def. not win, esp. since the htc wasn't even being favored against the regular non-jailbroken 3g!

honestly i guess i havent after looking through the htc website. it looks like a nice phone, i would have to handle one and see how it actually opperates, but it does look FAR better then the MyTouch, Pre, etc. that i have played with. the third party application support is probably not as good for the HTC, but then again without jailbreaking the app's cannot do that much anyways. this thread was not about the htc phone, but i have to admit that it looks like a competitor for sure.

haha, i guess sprint heard me bitchin'

right now i pay $84 a month for 900 anytime minutes and unlimited everything else. there are 4 lines on one account but we all have our own plans. got a call to where we will share 3000 minutes but still have our own individual plans. just share anytime minutes. good thing is i use the most mintues, average 600-700 mins a month. the other guy on the plan uses 400-500 average and the two other girls use maybe 200-300 a month average each. that knocks off $100

so now my bill will be either $60 or $64 a month...depending on taxes and etc.

so it looks like i'll prolly stay with sprint

GREAT! Way to stick to your guns about saying "fuck you" to Sprint. You caved very easily when they offered to give you a reach around.

j/k...good for you...now tell a mofo how to get on that train!!!
