Wireless Routers

Any one able to recommend one that performs better then others?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Ahh... good point sir. I wasn't even thinking that the two are not one in the same. I know I can get one through TWC, but would I be able to get a better one somewhere else?

I use a cheap Linksys WRT54GS with DD-WRT firmware. Works great. Once you learn that it's the firmware that counts, not the router, then all will be good.

I also recommend the WRT54GS.

But only if you are putting DD-WRT on it.

However, if you're not into changing out the firmware, I highly recommend the D-Link DIR-655 and its siblings. It is probably the best N router out there. It also has the added bonus of having GigE switch ports on the back as well as a USB port that can be used for a USB drive or printer.

IMO, the only downside is that the firmware is closed. I haven't seen any firmware hacks to open this router/switch up to something like DD-WRT. The DD-WRT websites has the 655 marked as "not possible"...

Oh, another neat feature. If you have a USB stick that acts as a 3G modem, you can plug it into the D-Link and use that for your internet connection (firmware 1.21 and earlier) Just be sure that you don't upgrade your firmware to 1.31 because that removes the feature for some inexplicable reason. Firmware 1.32 is now in beta but I don't know if it adds that functionality back or not.
