Exclamation Hunt or Abe....

I've got a non booting drive w/ XP Pro on it and need to get the COA# off. I've tried Key Finder and manually entering the reg. entry in a decoder to get the key but no dice. By chance do either of yall know how to get the key off this drive so i can reinstall the OS for the ppl? It's an elderly couple and they can't locate the disc or key.

TIA,
Bryan

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

is it oem like a dell or hp? if so, just format using an oem hp or dell disc. no need for cdkey. the install will see it is a "dell mobo" and skip activation, etc.

Hunt, it is an OEM but it's been reloaded w/ Pro instead of Home and the person that did it did not give them the key.

Jedi, I think I got it to work this time. When Id try it on XP it kept giving me the key for MY XP install but I think I got it this time usin Win7.

Thanks yall.

At the end of the day this is one of those situations where I have zero problems using a crack or maybe even a volume key. *I* feel if the person paid for it in the past, it should not be an issue for me to feel guilty about.

Hell, who cares for old people anyway. I'll get the pirated shit all day long as they just want to email their family and look up stuff on the Internet usually. Could do it via Linux if they had learned it first.

So much for all that work. The drive started clickin and makin a screechin sound. Thankfully I got their info off before that happened.Considering it's a 9 yr old e-Machines, they decided to go new.
