so i'm finally gonna break down and buy a computer...lol

out of these which seems to be the best deal?

only thing i'll be using it for is surfing the web, not big into downloading music or video from sites like kazaa or frost/limewire or anything like that. i've heard it's really easy to get viruses and shit from them. no gaming either, i have a ps3 for that.

i know these are the cheaper laptops and you get what you pay for, just trying to pick the best out of these cheapies

lemme know what you think

i know a few of those are compaq's but they have different processors and ram/HD sizes and just wondering what's the better of the bunch

thanks guys

I'm simply not an HP/Compaq fan for laptops, http://shop4.frys.com/product/5823183 is what my off the hip choice would be.

Reality? Specs are fine, but one important aspect for a laptop is its physicaly build. Ya sort of need to touch it, bend it..etc to make sure it is durable if you're going to be portable with it.

hell, some crappy laptops break just from opening/closing the lid too much. Cracked screen, plastic and broke ribbon cables are just some problems from normal use of a laptop.

ah okay, i gotcha

i won't be using it for work or anything but i'll be taking it with me everyonce in a while.

any reason in particular you don't like the hp/compaq's? or would that be like asking a ford guy why he doesn'y like chevys? lol

on a side note i didn't see any of these at the store, i'm guessing it's an online deal only?

I'm quite mobile in my job and the only laptops I've had hold up fairly well were IBMs and Toshibas. I had an HP guy come in to replace some hardware on an HP server we were staging and I noticed his laptop. It was trashed real bad, a lot of the plastic was cracked/missing...etc.

That does not MEAN it was all the laptop's fault, that guy could be an idiot. It has just been my experience that the IBMs and Toshibas are fairly durable and reliable. At my house I have IBM, Toshiba, Emachines and Dell. The later two are good machines, but not durable - which again reinforces my experience and opinion on the matter.

I'll second Ceyco on the IBM sentiment, they're tanks. If you're looking for durability, I'd say IBM or Panasonic Toughbook.

my girl has had one for 3 years and it's held up pretty good for what she uses it for(surfing the web most of the time, a little bit of music and photos here and there and school stuff). that's pretty much what i'd be doing with mine

DO NOT BUY A DELL LAPTOP

I have 2 HP laptops and both have done great. I used to do in-home tech support and both went with me all the time. they have been through alot and dont require much upkeep. Personally I'm a fan of the HPs

90% of my clients run dells, Hell, I have 3 that I use personally.

I've had very little problems with Dell's business class laptops and the support you get from them. Home based stuff, I'm not too familiar with.

I'm also a fan of Dell, I've supported Dell PC's and Laptops for 10+ years now, and aside from some build issues with specific hard drives, and batteries, they've been good reliable machines.

Personally all I ever recommend is Dell.

You'll be happy. I've had two different Dells and the current one is going on 6-years. It's a company computer and I use it everyday in the field with minimal problems.

Dells are aight and that one had overall better specs/hardware then that other crap you were look at.

Man, I remember when I paid 4K for a Dell laptop. Ya know, I gotta give it credit. It traveled with me through 3 war zones, getting strapped down real hard in the back of C130s all the time...hell, I dropped it off the ramp of one once. It's all floppy and crazy, but it runs.

I'd avoid Dell desktops. I've had one, runs great but their gay cases and some other things make upgrades a bitch.

I have an XPS something or other. I think the 1530, or whatever it's called. Without all the discounts and coupons I found it would have been 2800 dollars, and I got it for just over 1000

It's served me fine for the last year and runs anything I throw at it better than most of my buddy's desktops.

i have it loaded, updated and i'm using Blink from eEye.com as my security system. for some reason though after it loaded up(Blink) i can't connect to the internet. well it connects but after about 20 seconds it disconnects from the internet and just stays connected to the router.

it has a message that pops up saying that it sent a ping but got no response? i have a screenshot on my laptop of the actual message so i'll try to get it on here somehow. it also said something about possibly changing up or setting the Network account settings or something like that. i'm at my parents on their computer, that's how i'm posting this btw.

thanks

I haven't ever head of Blink, but that doesn't mean anything either. If you're needin a free AV, put Avira on their, it's top notch.
