Some in our group already have it. *I* do not as I'd only be able to put it in a VM and I'm not sure I see the benefit to that.

The people that are using it act like it is the best thing since sliced bread.

Doesn't it have NFS support out of the box too? That'll be kick ass IMHO.

I finally got off my ass and downloaded it. I guess I'll go build a VM now...

You have to stand to download it?

That will only be entertaining to me, sorry.

Thumbs up

This is pretty slick. Very quick on a low cache(16meg) drive.

Yes, I like it too. I've got it on a couple of year old IBM T-42 and it's much quicker than it was on XP Pro. The driver installation was easy as hell. Literally clicked on find driver and it found and installed everything I needed in maybe 5 minutes total.

Got a BSOD a few times after install. I'm guessing it's something to do with IE8 in it. I never had a problem with Beta. Also Everquest runs awful now in it, ran GREAT in Beta. Not sure what the fuck Microsoft does to their products when they are ready to be shipped. Oh well, XP will just carry on again.

looks like not til December for the general public release.

I installed the beta, but had issues with it. I'll wait til the disk arrives in my Action Pack, then I'll slap it on a VM, or one of the extra laptops I have.

Has anyone else been able to get Office Ultimate to load on it? I have a copy that I paid for that won't install. I'm going to try D/Ling the trial version from the website and see if it works.

Also, how about .NET 3.5? I need this for a tutor program my wife uses.

Otherwise, this kicks much ass. IE8 is fast as hell on here.

Edit - I was able to get Office to D/L and install going through the MS trial download. However, I can't get the Office Pro to install, it did the same thing my ultimate does (shuts down 75% of the way through).

Anyone got any screenshots of it? Does it remind you of Vista? Does it act like vista?

I downloaded the original Beta, but my ECS board died a horrible death so I never got around to it.

Well I am getting the machine back up so is it worth installing? How does it deal with games and such? I play Orangebox / Steam games exclusively.

From what I've heard it's just a relabeled Vista and should have been a service pack.

Well there are a few neat features in it, most of all the best of all is the removal of the UAC popups every 3.5 seconds.

I like how you can right click the desktop and rotate out your backgrounds too. Most of all they are improving upon XP's "Workgroup" by making a "Homegroup" that will allow you share all resources without being a domain computer...whether it works, who knows.

Its definitely crisper and more responsive...and I installed it on a 6 year old Optiplex GX270 we had laying around here at work...though W7 can't figure out what an "En-vidy-ah" graphics card is...so no aero effects on this machine.

But yes, for the most part it is how vista should have been instead of a hindsight "oops we pissed off the consumer" operating system...
