Ie8

Has anyone upgraded to IE8 yet? Is it worth it? What features does it add?

I ask because it is considered a mandatory update from Microsoft.

I was not paying attention and did it on Vista. I see nothing wrong with it, but don't really see any added features per se. Seems quick.

It's a little quicker in loading most sites, but that's about all I can tell is different. I have only used it for a couple of times because I use Firefox though.

My father installed it and now IE won't recognize his flash player, has tried everything short of re-imaging the computer to fix it. He uses Firefox now so he can watch Youtube, the old man loves his youtube.

The way it handles html tags has been slightly altered, so websites can load slightly strange. MS's "fix" was to add a really nice "Compatibility View" button next to the address bar to click if this happens to you.

Other than that, I haven't noticed any real issues at all. It works pretty well, which is about what you'd expect, given the maker.

Ok, well, as long as there are no serious issues with it, I'll mess around with it at home before I install it at work.

I really like IE7, so I'm hesitant to upgrade to IE8. Seems a little more cluttered and less efficient than IE7.

I installed it a few weeks back, but it had a bug that I couldnt deal with...

Esp. on here, when I want to go to the bottom of the thread I use the scroll portion of my trackpad and just go real fast in one swipe and it would go all the way to the bottom...well in IE8, it wouldn't recognize the bottom of the thread and just continually "roll" over to the start again....over and over about 4 times through a 30+ post thread. I couldn't deal with it, so I uninstalled and reinstalled IE7

That's good info. I'm not sure I use that same function, but I will keep an eye out for it.

I installed it on my computer at home last night and my initial thought was that it definately loads certain sites faster. It almost seems as if they took Google Chrome and rebuilt IE around the same architecture (I don't know about killing a single locked up tab like in Chrome). My usual test website is stangnet.com as it has always loaded slow on IE6, 7 and Firefox. In IE 8, it loaded as fast as (if not faster) than Chrome.

So far so good, but I will keep the scroll issue in mind.

I have it on this computer, it's alright, about the same as 7 in my experiences with it.
