Damn, it's amazing how much I've forgotten in that amount of time.

I try to get into it whenever I can just to brush up. It will slip away if you do not use it very often.

Best something in Texas.... just don't know what it is yet....

Same here. But I dont have to do too much with it, basically the same things over and over.

I used to use it every day for probably 5 consecutive years and would have considered myself a step below an expert. At the time it was a job for me but I actually enjoyed using it and coming up with different ways of doing things. One thing I used to play with quite a bit was 3D drawings and I was getting pretty damn good at doing those when I used it last. I may see if I can find a cheap tutorial CD to get me somewhat back up to speed.

Started with R-12 now work with Civil 3-D 2009, I prefer to use 2002 on my home PC, just because I type my commands and have shortcuts setup and am against using icons.

I started with 14. It's still my favorite, yes from 19 friggin 97. I have 04 but hate to use it. The commands are so simple in 14 and I don't have to wait on the commands. I use it for land surveying, so no 3-d unless I'm doing a topo, then the only thing I use is the DTM for engineers.

I was certified in R12 and promptly did nothing with it. I need to go back for a refresher as it would give me a side deal to work on.

Been working with autocad all the way back to 92. Man things sure have changed. That has been what???? 17 years??? Damn I am getting old. I never did get into the 3D stuff though. Probably should. It might bring more business my way. One place I do drawings for wants AutoCAD, another wants MicroStation, and the last wants Visio(which I completely abhor!).

Have fun re-learning everything! I am running 08 at home and find some things to be different from the 00 that I was using, but all in all, it is pretty much the same.

heh... six hours later, here is what I was trying to draw. I've got all the dimensions turned off but you can get the idea.

lol.... Like I said, it's been 6-7 years since I've even seen ACAD. Some of the most simple commands I couldn't remember so I did a good bit of reading in the help menus. Back when I was drawing every day, I could have whipped this out in 5-10 mins. tops.

But what is the file you can edit to change the "shortcuts" for each command? When I was drawing stuff on a daily basis, I customized all of the shortkey commands for what I used the most.

Never used Acad, What is it's main purpose?

FWIW, I use MastercamX - but it's mainly used for building a "part", dimensioning it - and eventually building the code for a CNC machine..I guess mainly because it's a cad/cam solution as opposed to a cad only?

Can you import a DXF file into this software. I have prepared DXF files for a Machinist to use with his CNC Machine to cut out parts.

CAD - Computer Aided Drafting So my guess would be to render a drafting that is aided by a computer.......................................... ........................................

For whatever reason, I thought the "D" was for "design".

Dammit, you're right.

Well, it is to design general things with the aid of computers! I just pushed them together because you usually see 'CAD Drafters'

Actually it is but it's probably used more for drafting schematics than actual design, like you might use it for.

I use Autodesk Design Review for viewing our CAD files in 3-D and it's a great tool.
