Simple External Hard Drive Case with Fan

I'm having a bitch of a time finding something ultra simple. I have 4 drives that I need to put in a case as right now they are dangling out of their respective cases. one is a 1U case and the other I simply don't care to mount inside the case for a variety of reasons. With that said, I just want a case...

That can hold 4 drives and has a built in fan for cooling.

I don't need usb, firewire or sata ports. I don't need power for the drives...etc. Just a place to put the 4 drives in and run the cables inside..etc.

I see something for 100 bucks, but they all have built in ports. I'd think what I'm looking for would be around 25-50.

I've thought about fabricating something, but *I* could only do it with wood which is not great for heat dissipitation. (sp?)

Anyway, anyone seen anything like what I'm look for?

Take care,

Got all that, but don't want these on the network. I want them attached to the machines they are already attached to. Just housed for cooling purposes + a little asthetics.

Hmm, sounds like you could just get a 4in3 internal drive bay, have the fan piggy back on the power from one of the drives and rig up a shroud?

Or maybe i'm not too sure what your looking to get.

Yeah, I know it is basically retarded what I'm asking for. It's just to clean up my little lab environment and help keep the drives cool. Any way...just think basic of basic.

A rack for 4 drives.
Hole in the back for power and sata cables
Fan to keep 4 drives cool

Nothing fancy at all. Fan is optional if there is good airflow available since I have 3-4 extra fans of different types laying around and can rig something up.

Yeah I think your best bet would be to build yourself, or buy a hdd rack that "should" be mounted inside a cage and build a case for it (modders mesh comes to mind).

I have one of these in black. It's fanless and my external stays plenty cool.

The more I look at it, the more I realize they just don't make anything that simple. I can understand why too as there would not be much need for it. Think it might be better just to buy some cases with esata ports and be done with it. Sucks, rather just put them in a rail - but cost/effort probably is not worth it.

Appreciate the input. If yall see something, let me know please. I'm going to look for a week or two more before ordering some cases off newegg.

So, just as an example - this is almost perfect...

The only problem is I don't want another power supply dangling around to give the drives power. Otherwise, you run your connections...and it cools the drives.
