Question Memory upgrade for my Toshiba

I have a Toshiba P15-s409 model laptop that I've had for at least 4 years. I've been thinking about buying a new one, but I figured I might as well look into upgrading this one. It works fine most of the time, but it is slow when running more than one application. As far as I can tell there are two sticks of 256 MB in there. Can I replace just one with a 1 GB stick? Here are some links for more info.

My laptop specs are under "Detailed specs" tab...

Would this work if I buy just one?

Toshiba recommends these, but they are kinda high compared to other sites...

Any other advice or help is appreciated
