Upgraded RAM...

I have been running the same old POS Compaq PC at home for a good 5 years or so and decided to upgrade the RAM to get it running a little faster. It had 256 and I added 1 Gb, what a freaking difference! I was ready to just ditch this computer and but a newer one but I think I'm good for another couple years now.

10-4 Ram is the biggest bang for the buck performance upgrade.

Haha, yep. This computer was outdated when I bought it so many years ago. It really hasn't been an issue though since I don't do gaming or media stuff on it. It sees really light duty, just surfing, the occasional Word or Excel doc and stores pics and iTunes stuff. The only thing we really want to do now is get a decent external harddrive for all of our pics and music and we will be fine.

I had 2 Gig of ram and one of the sticks died. I had to use 1 Gig for a few days and I could tell a big dropoff in performance.

memory makes a HUGE difference...I just upgraded a laptop from 512 to 2G and it's like the laptop is new again. Now if only it was a dual core...

My pops and I are about to upgrade our work station to 12gig which will cover 2 quad cores.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

2-4 Gigs for a modern desktop is fine. Above and beyond that typically is overkill or poor applications sucking it up. (i.e. Sql)

Hell, a server that can support (Cisco) 7500 VOIP phones/users w/ supporting PSTN/Gateway connections and the other bells and whistles has 4Gb of RAM. Decked out CPUs and HDDs, but just 4Gb of RAM.

The machine started blue screening. I just had to narrow it down.
