Laptop committed suicide!!!

Yup, it totally took a dump on me. I have never had one go down cause this is my first one. It worked fine the night before. I deleted my cookies, and history like i normally do every couple of days. Powered it up the next day and it wont do shit. Gives me some shit about memory dump and all kinds of other shit and goes to a default menu with safe startup, last known safe working settings or some shit and thats it. Took it to staples and they said all i could do was get a recovery disc and reinstall it. So I guess I lost all my files and shit. Lucky for me its not a work computer or anything important, but it still pisses me off that I have no idea what happened to it.

All is probably not lost - provide some details about the PC and it can probably be fixed, at the very least your data can be retrieved.

UPDATE: The mother board has crapped out, and i was told that its cheaper to buy a new laptop than to buy and install a new one. Any truth to that? Anyone do computer work that can beat $800 to do this. Anything over bout $300-$400 and its the hammer and hardrive removal, and trash the rest of the pieces.

If you want help I'd post the exact model number.

Also laptops are a pain in the butt to work on thus the high costs for labor/parts

Many laptop boards also have the cpu and video all hard wired so you are also paying the cost of that.

Over the years most of the time I've seen a board go bad out of warranty its more cost effective to get a new laptop.
