? on xfering files wireless....

Have a wireless Linksys N/G/B router. I'm guessing the N is better. Anyways, laptop only does b/g. I can surf fine, no issues. On my main PC I have a folder that I'm sharing, which I can open and download to laptop. Problem is when I download big files, the fastest speed I'm getting is about 2.5-2.8 megs. The signal is "excellent" and speed shows "54 Mbps". Is there something I need to do to bump up my speed for transferring.

Main PC is XP
Laptop is Vista

thats about right. Best is hooking up via cable. If you computer had N, would be faster.
