xbox died last night

well i was playing cod 5 and all of a sudden the graphics got kind of shitty, but everything still worked, i even finished the round. then i thought i will just reset it and play somemore. wrong! i turned the thing back on and i got an redlight in the bottom right corner and the error "E74". anyone know how to fix this? i have heard of purposly overheating it. does that really work?

Is it under warranty yet? If so, I'd just handle it that way man. If not, I'd get desperate and try to fix it via Internet suggestions.

it's not under warranty and microsoft wants 100 bucks to send it in. i would just rather get a used core from gamestop for $150 and mod the cooling so it wont happen again.

i think when i get home i am going to do the xclamp and thermal paste. then mod the case and tap off the power supply and use some pc fans.

I don't have any better suggestions and like I said....out of warranty I'd get desperate and try some crap like that. Good luck btw.

Towel method doesn't work. Don't do it. Well it does work. But it can fry your board. Don't do it. My friend here at work fixes them and i'll ask him what the error means. I'll get back to you when he gets in.

Don't talk about it! Be about it!

Xbox 360 Three Red Light Repair

If you have this problem try this simple fix:

1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run “Initial Setup” under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.

*** UPDATE *** Microsoft has a new free warranty of 3 years for the 3 red light error. If you have this problem, you can send your console in for free repair. Or, if you don’t want to pay shipping and have to wait 2-3 weeks, you can attempt to fix it yourself.

My husband's Xbox 360 had this issue so we registerd the console on their website and sent it in for repair. They sent us the box for shipping and fixed it for free.
