So, now that TWC has been upgrade to 800MHz and Docsis 3.0...

Does anyone know when they are going to pop the cork on all this new bandwidth available? This new turboboost function (which is a delayed throttle switch, essentially) shows clearly that there is some massive bandwidth available already - I've seen 2 megabytes/s down many times, but primarily I want more upstream. I've heard they were looking at shutting out Fios here in the next few months - and if you're familiar with Docsis 3.0 stats, it's entirely possible.

is this over copper lines? I doubt it.

God i hate living in an older apartment complex where its piped with old copper. I think Fios is going to be hard to beat, verizon has a good head start when it comes to infrastructure.

Docsis 3.0 is considerably faster than fiber - or, it can be. They have the luxury of throttling their network whenever they want to. It has the power to run 304 Mbit/s down, 108Mbit/s up - which obliterates fios at the moment. As far as infrastructure goes, the fundamental cable structure exists just about everywhere in the country, the docsis 3.0 and 800MHz upgrades take about 6 months to complete in a large metropolitan area - so in comparison, Fios has a couple cities in the US whereas cable has every city just 6 months away. It's taken a while for them to do the upgrade because they were not feeling the burn of their competition until just recently, but don't think cable is even close to out of the game yet.

sorry for the ignorance on this bro, but this is just readily available for current TWC customers and ran over our regular coax cable connection? I've got the 7/512 package so i'm wondering how that will affect my performance.

Not necessarily. Cable is hybrid fiber, ie, fiber to the node. It's only the last mile that isn't fiber for cable.

Well, currently TWC offers a 10/1mb package now with their upper tier. As TWC has in the past, they bump up previous speeds on a regular basis, I think we've seen 1 or sometimes 2 bumps a year from the time I've been with them.

From my knowledge and friends working on their rollout, D3.0 is currently being installed and operation in several locations in DFW, but they have yet to take advantage of it.

Oh, ok. lol - I'll just say again - it's not. You're apart of Arlington and depending on where you're located in Arlington, your plant is/has been in the process of being upgraded. However that upgrade isn't to D3.0, it's just taking care of spectrum issues.

By the way, when did you 'friend' say it would be available for subscribers?

I noticed you edited that post after quite some time to now disagreeing, I guess you had to spend some time on google? I was talking about the DFW area, not necessarily Arlington. My friend works in Grapevine and was talking about the Keller area, and parts of Dallas having the upgrades. My area, here in arlington just finished the 800MHz upgrade.

I only edited my post to ask when your friends ETA was. I don't have to use google on this one. I know. TWC also doesn't serve Keller for residential, that's mainly Charter's area.

No sweat, I could be wrong, but I'm certain 3.0 is the current upgrade.

Don't worry, you can count on me being right. I use Ask Jeeves for all of my information and he's never steered me wrong yet.
