Did you play Oblivion?

Good story, good amount of content for the casual gamer, bad ass spells and graphics. Lots of glitches if you wanna get rich, and leveled up quick (your a cheater)

Much more in depth. Very open world feeling, but with a lack of direction sometimes. Game can be beaten in like 5 hours. Or you can wander around for 100+ depending on your gameplay style.

I played both, but I put fallout down to finish fable. I already played oblivion, and despite the fact that it was guns instead of spells and swords. Fallout felt ALOT like oblivoin. I had that "ive done all this before" feeling.

I say fable if your casual, fallout if you really wanna sink into something.
