People with Verizon FIOS (internet), call for upgrades.

To those who are current subscribers with Verizon fios, call them (1-800-483-4000 option2->option 1) and request a speed upgrade because it will be for free.

I was on the 15/15 package and Verizon upgraded me to 20/20 for free. They don't offer the upgrade unless you ask so check the wiki or verizon's site for the old/new speed packages.

All you have to do is call, sit through the numerous phone transfers (took about an hour just to find the right rep which gave me the number above).

Just thought i'd spread the word for those who didn't know, i had no freaking idea. Also, a new Gigabit/Wireless-N router will be offered in December according to the reps I spoke to (last night and this morning).

Just got this email, got off the phone with them about 20minutes ago.

EDIT: The rep on the phone told me i'd lose internet connection for about 4 hours for the speed upgrade I thought this was odd but said oh well. Just checked my speeds by downloading a large iso from my server and my speeds have already been upgraded

Edit: Got it done, but not without the CSR trying to tell me it would cost an additional $3 a month to which I quoted the Wiki article where it explicitly states FREE. He then said, "Yes sir Mr. Lancaster, we can have this set up for you by tomorrow morning." He changed his tune real quick.

I dont know what speed I am at on my package but I went to that site and had 20296 kb/s and 1988 kb/s. I just did this at 5AM in the morning so I dont know if that makes a difference.

We got a letter in the mail last week telling us about the upgrade. I wanted to say it said there was a contract and price increase to upgrade speed though. Guess I will have to call.

I just took a moment to call and it didn't work out.

It's not a free upgrade if you have the 5/2 package. They no longer offer 5/2 as it has been converted to a 10/2 package, but they still won't upgrade unless you pay an additional $7. You are grandfathered in at 5/2 and if you want to upgrade you do have to pay more money. They would not acknowledge that there is a free upgrade program in my case.

And it's like pulling teeth dealing with Verizon cust. service. They really have some poorly trained rep's.

It looks like you folks on a higher tier made out quite well.

Yes it came from wiki but I didn't say where I was quoting it from when I used it, they would likely have tried to disqualify it based on that.

i called around 3pm, and they gave me no problem. I told them "i noticed you now charge the same price for 20/20, can i get upgraded for free?", and she said yes and said it will take affect monday

I called, and they upgraded me in 30 minutes. They said that by 5pm it should be done. I tested my speed and my upload speed improved but my download speed is still at around 15. I thought it would be closer to 20.

I owe Roliath and Tx Redneck a beer.

Check this out.

I called two separate occasions and got a female rep. each time. And they both declined to give me the upgrade no matter what statement I made from the above wiki article(I didn't mention it was from wiki). They both told me that if I go up to another bandwidth tier then my bill will change accordingly.

Frustrated, I decided to let it go for the weekend. I called this morning and got a male rep. and I told him about my two previous attempts, including the 20 minute hold time on the previous call. I also told him that if I didn't get the free upgrade I was going to take my business elsewhere. He put me on hold for a bit and came back and told me that he is upgrading me to the 20/5 tier free of charge and apologized. And then sent me a confirmation and said I should be good to go by the end of the day.

Therefore, I went from from a 5/2 to a 20/5 free of charge. 3rd time was a charm. I got my download speed quadrupled by making an angry phone call. And I'll even be a nice guy by refraining from making the obvious sexist comment for this scenario.

For you guys that are getting the free upgrade, do you have the Verizon phone service as well? I just got the song and dance that they can't upgrade me because I don't have their phone service bundle and would have to upgrade that service to qualify for the 'free' speed upgrade.

they told me that the upgraded service wasn't available in my area yet (wylie) and that i had the fastest service available now. they said to call back regularly to keep updated as they're constantly making upgrades.

All I have is TV and interweb service and got no guff from them. They tried to tell my brother in-law that same crap this AM. Thing is that he HAS all three services. They're prolly getting a higher volume of people calling in than expected and gettin pissy for having to work.

When are y'all gonna start going D2D in McKinney? I've been going to the verizon site weekly to see if my area is being serviced yet. My buddy's got the 20/20 pkg and downloaded 14gb in 5 hours, where as my 7/512 package w/ TWC was stuck at 26 hours on the same download.

Well, here is the end result of all of my phone calls.

It looks like they gave me 20/2 instead of the 20/5, but I'm still very pleased considering I was on 5/2. Not a bad bump in bandwidth for free.

Takes me 40 seconds to download a 100 megabyte file. I've come a long way from a 56K modem.

Online Upload tests are never accurate, I have a 20/20 connection and my upload results are similar to yours.
I can however, upload stuff to my server at 20Mbit though and seed out torrents at that speed.

I've found speakeasy.net/speedtest - Dallas test to be fairly accurate at our speeds. It's starts slacking at DS3 speeds and above.

My '03 Sold.

Just got kicked up from 5-2 to 20-5 at no additional cost. Also added a 'distinctive ring' for no additional.

Seems that the trick is to work with the rep and agree to take a trial offer or two. You'll have to call and cancel it later but in so doing you helped your rep to hit his/her numbers...

That's because their backbone is a DS3. You won't get more throughput than 45 Mbits/s. And that is only provided you are the only one on their server conducting a test at the time.

For home users the tests are accurate, but people doing these from work connected to huge pipes are going to get skewed results.

Yeah, I assumed that. Just point out that it is pretty accurate for us folks in the area.

Sold em the day after I posted em up. Fixed some gaskets, new plugs, and tuned the carbs, the 250 was faster than ever lol. Wish it had run like that before but oh well. Also did a lil welding on the trailer since it was cracked, and recarpeted them, got a pretty penny as well.
