PC to LCD TV

I am wanting to hook up my laptop to my HD LCD for the Texas Tech game tonight. The only decent output I have on the computer is an S Video and the auto from a headphone jack that I will need to split. Has anybody done and does it work ok before I spend money on cables?

My model doesn't. It has composite, HDMI, and S-Video. Computer only has S-Video and VGA.

If your computer has a DVI output, you can get a cable that will switch DVI to HDMI.

*edit* just saw you only have VGA. You'll need a better vid card

*fuck edit again* its a laptop, youre fucked

He's not fully fucked. Don't they have vga to hdmi cables out there? I'm sure all laptops these days have a vga out.

I would but it is not on PPV. They are streaming the game over the web for $8.95.

I ended up using the S-Video output from the computer to the LCD. Picture isn't digital though it isn't bad. For the audio, I bought a headphone to RCA L/R splitter and it sounds good. I guess I need to price an HDMI video card for my desktop, though the converter mentioned earlier maybe an option.

you really only need a video card with DVI out instead of HDMI. easier to find and not to mention cheaper. if you get a decent card with dual dvi out you can hook up your current monitor + the tv.

you would just need a dvi to hdmi adaptor or cable. go to monoprice.com for either. its cheap.

Nah it is a monitor. Just give it the right resolution and frequency and you won't have a problem.

I didn't know the resolution to set my computer on so I went with the highest. I have a 1080P Mitsubishi. I watched the game and a show I missed online and each had a different format on the screen. I wonder if Vista automatically controls it? If not, what should I set it on?

1080p = 1920 x 1080 resolution. you should set the frequency to 60hz.

if you used an s-video cable you cant output that resolution.

Vista doesn't have 1920 res on the control panel so 1080p isn't going to happen even if I get a card unless there is somthing I don't know. What should I set the res at for S-Video?

it wont have that resolution until you plug it in to a device that allows it to have that resolution. my laptop's max resolution shows 1400x800 or something but once i plug the vga cable to my samsung and change the display output mode i gives me the option of 1920 x 1080
