New ram help!

So today I decided to upgrade my memory and bought another gig of ram, so I get home and pop it in the 2nd slot start it up and I get the unexpected error or hardware/software update screen. boot up in, safe mode, last working configuration, and start as normal but after trying all the selections I only get to the xp loading screen and it pops up for a second then flashes a blue screen and restarts.

help? ohh and the ram is the same just different brand
