Hard drive instalatrion

Does anyone on here work on pc's? Took the pc to a pc place and they charge me 300.00 to install a new harddrive is that a fair price? Its an HP media center pc about 1 year old and only used for a month before a virus totally destroyed it. Can anyone here install a harddrive and software with media center?

sounds like a fair price for a new hard and installing and updating all the software.

Installing a hard drive is as easy as changing your air filter. Installing software is as easy as clicking on Setup.exe.

Don't pay shit for it. There's two cables that connect to the hard drive. Replace it, load the OS and work on installing the other software/updates in your spare time.

Really. I'm in southwest Fort Worth. I'd do it for $200.

Chances are you don't even need a new hard drive or never had a real virus - just a bad drive. Try to find someone to do it for you or read about it on the...Internet. Swapping drives is easy as can be. Heck 95% of all PC work is easy, the hardest part is typically diagnosing the problem with it.

With the prices of components what they are today, everything in a PC is pretty much throw away/replaceable. No need to beat your brain in trying to figure out an issue.

The only bad part of a crapped out HD is the potential data loss.

One way to check is to look at the jumpers on the back of the drive. Read your instruction manual for the hard drive and it should tell you how the jumper should look for master/slave configuration.

That's a hell of a ripoff. Hell, even Best Buy will only charge you $40 plus $129 for OS reinstall, which is a ripoff to begin with.
