newbie to HD video transfer/editing

Picked me up a canon HV20 vid camera and I'm not sure what I need to transfer the video from the camcorder to a dvd for my final ouput.

Currently I've only got my laptop(inspiron 600m) so I don't know if it has the correct terminals to transfer the video in HD fomat(only have USB). The only software I have is the windows movie maker but I believe that only uses SD format.

I've been looking at Pinnacle Studio Plus version 12 but not seen too many reviews about it...

Any suggestions/help is appreciated..

Thanks!

you need a firewire (IEEE 1394) port on your computer. you will have to buy a firewire card if your lappy doesnt have it now with firewire cable to match. then you can import video via which ever video editing software you would like (windows movie maker, pinnacle, adobe premiere, etc.)

Curious, did you read the manual before posting? Typically name brand devices have good manuals and will provide specific information that is relative your device.

Listen to my buddy, Jeff Bolton, from 6-9 AM Mon-Fri.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

Thanks man, went and picked up a card and cable, works great. BB had Pinnacle studio V12 for $70 so I'm going to see how bad it bogs down my system.
