Help Me Build a New Unit

Just like the title says.

Must be ~$700.

I've got a problem with either the memory slots, or the memory in my current unit, so instead of fucking with it, I'm just going to upgrade. Only problem I have is that I don't really know what I'm looking for. I'm wanting to play a few games and since my PC takes a shit on me every 30-45 minutes, I refuse to play them now.

You could build a pretty nice system for $700. What games are you interested in playing? I just built my SLI PC with 2 8800 GTS for $700. Are you just building a new PC, or do you need all the other stuff like keyboard, mouse, monitor, ect. ?

City of Heroes, Age of Conan, Any espionage/war games.

The announcement of Diablo 3 is really what made me want to upgrade again.

I'm hoping that I can salvage the power supply and case, and I have all other peripherals. Hopefully I'll just need a video card or two, mobo, cpu and hard drive.

Well, from everything that I've read about D3, its not going to be DX10. Which means you really dont need a "powerhouse" of a pc to run it. That being said, $700 can still get a lot of bang-for-buck. I would go for something with an intel chipset (with SLI support if you decide to upgrade later), Core2Duo CPU, a couple of 8800 series cards, and depending on what OS you want to run 2 or 4 gigs of some good name ram. One factor of what parts would work best together, is your PSU. How big of a power supply do you have? Also, what size monitor are you wanting to use? And finally, what OS do you want to run? Then we can figure out how to get the most out of your 700.

If you are going to spend that kinda dollar on a new PC....I would not even waste a thought on using your existing power supply....they are relatively cheap for even a good one nowadays...why take a chance that your power supply could be on its way out too...which COULD take out your new mobo and processor.

FUCK Canada

The p/s I have is either 5 or 550. I'll be running XP, and my monitor is a 19er.

I built this just a month ago, have yet to order it but it's a decent system....

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Processor ----------$99

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory-------- $58 x2

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive ----------$59

ASUS M2N-E AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard -------- $89

EVGA 512-P2-N757-TR GeForce 8600 GT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card ----------$89

Antec NeoPower 550 550W ATX12V Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CUL, TUV, CE, FCC, CCC, CB, C-tick ------------- $109

COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-WW Black/Silver Aluminum Bezel, SECC Chassis ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail ----------$54

Comes out to $620.94 + shipping. Not the top of the line but not a bad little system, it'll play all the new games.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Fry's also has a 9800 GTX card for $219 (or $179 if you went BFG). It's a very fast card by itself without an SLI setup.

Buell 1125R
Raptor 700R
No fast cars though
