Back to WWII eh? That's cool.

I just worry about this one since it isn't developed by Infinity Ward.

This one has everything that none of the others had....co-op mode, challenge mode(you can rank outside the game before you even play online). They added vehicles(those will be set through your perks).

Yeah, it's just that all the cool versions of COD were done by Infinity Ward. The lamers were not.

I read somewhere that a new dev team will design a new cod each turn, meaning TreyArch this time, new dev for Cod6, and so forth.

I'd like to see that. My understanding is that it's Infinity Ward's baby, and they bring in other development teams to fill in the blanks to keep new product flowing because one developer can't bring out new stuff as often as they'd like. I fully expect COD6 to be done by IF.

CoD4 was be the best in the series imo, mainly because it was bleeding edge for the CoD franchise.
I think they needed Cod4 to keep the franchise alive and fresh, I wasn't a fan of CoD3 and i don't think many were either. but really how much of ww2 can you keep showing?

Yeah, and COD3 was a different developer. I'm not nutswinging on Infinity Ward. I've never had a game by them before COD4. It's just what I've heard/read about the series since I got 4.

I completely agree. I'd like to see a game played from the Colonial bush soldiers POV, attacking redcoats from camouflage with black powder rifles.. etc. THAT would be awesome.

My biggest concern for going back in time (again) is that I'm so used to the wide array of weapons from Modern Warfare. I'm not sure I want to go back to M1's and Thompsons.

it's better... WW2 is so popular because it's entertaining. Theres no choppers to wipe your ass out, etc... just unadulterated infantry combat. You also have a lush history to pull from, heroism, etc... I think a WW2 game is much stronger than a modern game from that standpoint. There was actual air wars, dog fights, naval battles, etc... that doesn't happen anymore, planes engage each other from 20 miles away, no two ships will probably ever use their main guns again.

Oh, you don't have to tell me. The older I get, the more research I do on WWII. Very rich, interesting stuff for sure.

I'm just talking about online game play. The story is cool and all, but 99% of the fun I have with the game is playing other people online. With that in mind, there is a wealth of specialized weaponry that I think would be missed when it comes time for a death match.

I don't know, the specialized weapontry just makes things easier or more frustrating if you're the enemy. I like the idea of everyone having an equal change. US soldiers fighting hadji's isn't exactly entertaining if done true to reality.

They are using the same game engine from COD4, and they have already said there will be some visual tweaks to improve the quality. But if you are gonna be on the fence about it, then yer gonna be on the fence about it until it comes out and you play it. I for one, do have a smidge of fear that it might not live up to COD4, but I think I have much more anticipation for how much better it could be as well.

I have zero interest in modern war games, but I dig the WWII stuff...

with that said, a grimey, ultra-realistic vietnam based game would be SICK!

well as much as I have like COD4 more than likely I will get it. Now I played some of COD big red. Not for sure which that one was. It was alright. I wasn't any good at it though. Really never gave it a chance.

But I'm all about the online playing mode so will see.

What does "true to reality" have to do with online play? Everybody gets to pull form the same pool of weapons. The Marines vs hadji's or SAS vs Russians is just so you know which side your on.

If it was true to reality, you'd be fighting hadjis with weapons that are 30 years old, no technology, etc. Meaning, it would be a one sided fight. That translates to single player mode, as well as online.

Socom, you didn't have the same weapons to choose from. It would depend on which side you were on. More realistic, but not quite true to reality.

I've got mixed emotions on the WWII stuff. Modern weaponry is more entertaining to me. However, I will say that the WWII stuff takes more actual skill.

My point was that any "truth to reality" in an online game sucks.

If you want gritty war action the Revolutionary War is the last thing you want. Ever wonder why they would be stupid enough to stand in a line and shoot at each other? The guns were horribly inaccurate and the powder wasn't exactly smokeless so....

I agree though, how many times can you fight WWII?

My only thought on this is that the better the technology gets, the more legitimate it is to revisit past conflicts.

I say give us a solid WWII single player, and gift the multiplayer online with at least a few modern weapons. Maybe not a P90, but an MP5 would be appreciated. Still yanks vs. krauts and whatnot.

WWII games are boring, unless you are talking Silent Hunter or something like that. Infantry WWII games blow nuts. RESPAWN games blow even larger nuts, bring on the new SOCOM! My luck, they'll make that abortion a respawn game also.

Socom will never be a fully respawn game.

When this game comes out for PS3, thats when I'll get a PS3.

http://socom.us.playstation.com/Gate.aspx

From what I am reading they are doing everything in their power to fuck it up. No more briefing rooms (where you sit around and BS with your friends) auto-matching system like COD4, gayness. The reason SOCOM was better than everything else was the community, they are taking that out of the ranked games. You can still create your own rooms unranked, but what the hell is the point in that? Slant Six doesn’t have the foggiest idea of what SOCOM is about, and all the changes they are making prove it. For all I care they could have redone the graphics, the game physics, and remodeled the stages to be destructible and rereleased the same damn game.
