Trojan virus help.

Having problems with a pc.

I keep getting baloon pop ups saying I need to update virus software and the desktop is blue with a message to scan for a virus scan with a link.

I can access google but when I try to search anything it won't do anything.

I have microtrend, right now its scanning but it's taking forever. Also when I'm typing it skips or something so I have to go back and retype.

this is what it links me to & pops up.

Are you doing the online scan, HouseCall?
If not and you don't have a real-time AV, Avast is free and very effective. The only downside is the GUI takes a little while to get accustomed to.

Or if you can DL this it should take care of it.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

well i downloaded both txredneck, but you have to pay for both so I guess to check is free and to clean them out you have to pay.

We have a microtend account, it's taking forever to do full scan.

I did 3 different scans with "free" spyware and micro is still running. It's been running for 3 hours now. finally its at 99%

Smile Deleting the Web Page off your Desktop

I assume you are running Windows XP but if I am wrong let me know. I can help you out with this little "Misleading Application". First to get your desktop back we got to delete the Webpage setup on your desktop as your desktop wallpaper by the program. You can do this by following these instructions:

1. Right Click on your Desktop until you get a menu where you can select “Properties” If you don’t get that then its because you are right clicking on the webpage on your desktop, So try right click as far away from the desktop as possible like under your Start Menu or the farthest left and right sides of the screen.

2. If you clicked “Properties” you should get a “Display Properties” window. From here select the “Desktop” tab.

3. Now in this tab choose the “Customize Desktop” button at the bottom.

4. This should bring you a “Desktop Items” window. From here click on the “Web” tab.

5. Now in this tab select and un-check and delete all Web pages in the web pages box. There should be one there that cannot be deleted called “My Current Home Page”, just make sure it’s not checked on. Also don’t worry about locking the desktop.

6. Then just click ok, apply, etc… And now you should not see the blue message desktop anymore.

After you tried this, let me know if it worked so I can begin assisting you with the "Misleading Application" removal process.

AVG -- www.grisoft.com -- has a free trial on their spyware/malicious whatever tool for like 30 days. I've downloaded it several times and run the trial to fix other people's computers.

At this point if you already tried scanning for it and it won’t pick it up then stop downloading more crappy spyware/adware removal applications. We got delete this thing out of the registry and show this thing who’s the boss lol. Just let me know when your are ready for the next step. Also what OS are you running? Win XP, Win 2K, or Vista?

It's XP.

Here's the deal.

The pc was just acting up like crazy, the damn time changed to a military time as well & I couldn't change it back.

I did a system restore on the pc & everything is back to normal.
However, when running a scan on Trend micro it quarantines the same trojans. (I think the problem was that day I started having the issues, Trend Micro quarantined them and I clicked to delete them, after that hell broke loose)

It's best to turn off system restore then boot in safe mode then run a scan then delete because system restore saves the trojan also.

I have turned off the system restore.

So I should just run the safemode and run the scan? Will the trend micro be able to clean those files then? Because I get a message that it cant, only quarantine them.

I do get pop ups here and there, when I am opening a diff page, all of a sudden it opens some bs pages. & I keep having issues while typing, if im typing fast it skips letters here and there as i type.

Who is the manufacturer of the PC? Dell, Sony, HP?

And do you have all the backup disks and drivers?

It's a Dell.

It's one of the computers here @ the office.
I don't think the backup disks & such are here.

That's the same shit I had a few days ago. Trend Micro scan wouldn't pick it up, even after I rebooted in safe mode. Had to take it to someone and they found 2 corrupt files in the directory. It's a bitch.

First off, if you have a dedicated AV program DON'T dl and install another. They don't play well together.

Secondly, the Avast link I posted is 100% free. I've put it on many 'puters w/ great results.
