Antivirus Software

So a few weeks ago my hard drive on my laptop crashed and I am getting it back today. I need to download new Anti Virus software. I have used Norton but I don't really like it too much. Have any suggestions on good software that I can download on it tonight?

TIA

Avast!

It's free for the home version if you register.

AVG, basic protection. Free for home use: http://free.grisoft.com/

Upgrade is $35 (2 years instead of 1): http://www.grisoft.com/ww.upgrade-free

Here's a comparison of several anti-virus products http://www.sunbelt-software.com/ihs/...s_2D2008q1.pdf

you'll need the free Adobe reader to view it.

I've been a long time proponent of AVG but the latest version (8) is getting to be a lot like norton - piggy and slow. Avast seems to be the selection of choice for disgruntled AVG users from reading the AVG forums.

AVG is what my dad uses. He said he likes it, but I've heard great things about Avast.

I looked at the list... AntiVir looks like it could be a good one as well.

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to try AVG this time since everyone I have asked seems to say AVG is really good.

No, but of all the "free" anti-viruses I've installed, it's the simplest, least nagging, full coverage anti-virus.

AVG is nice, but the new version has become a little bit of a resource hog much like Norton
