Angry Do Not Buy From Circuit City!!!!

this is what i sent to some "influential" people. PLEASE dont buy anything from these tools. they wont honor the warranty that they sell.

"I am having problems over a computer that was a gift to me from my mother in law. She bought me a laptop at circuit city to use as my work computer at the police dept. that i was working at. it was purchased in aug of 2007. we had multiple problems with it and it was exchanged in oct of 2007. the computer that they replaced it with is now having problems. she bought the extended "covers everythign including accidental damage" warranty. well the computer went down in march. i have been ran all over to get this thing repaired. i took it to the store and was told to get with the warranty people (city advantage), i call them they tell me to go to compaq since it is still inside the mfg 1 yr warr. i speak to them, they send me a part to fix it with. i install said part and it does not fix the computer. so i have to get back in touch with them and they say i need to send it in. they overnight me a box with a shipping fixture in it. i place the computer with no damage inside the fixture and inside the box. mail it in. several days later i call to confirm that it was recieved, since i hadn't herd anythign from them as they said i would. they inform me that it has external damage "water damage to the keyboard", and tell me i need to pay 750 bucks to get it replaced. keep in mind that they never looked to see what was wrong with it. and more importantly, it didnt have water damage when i sent it in. so now i have the laptop back. i speak with the warranty company again and they tel me that they will not fix the computer because the first time i triedf to make a claim i told them there was no physical damage. I proceed to the store now to try and simply get them to replace it. the store manager (richard keys) at CC here in hurst. gets angry with my mother in law and myself and tells us we need to wait until oct, until the mfg warranty is up and then send it in to the warranty company. i told him that is unacceptable, seeing as it has been out of commission since march already anyways. so i contact the executive offices at circuit city where i spoke to the exec asst by the name of barbara rorlando. she informed me that there is absolutely nothing that they can do in order to replace this item. it was already exchanged once, back in oct. but she is telling me that noone in the company including the president of the company to replace this item. all they offered was to call hp and have them send me a box to ship it back to the warranty people, or refund the cost of the warranty. I am still without a computer. meanwhile she keeps asking me why i waited since march to get this fixed. i have been working on it SINCE march. please give me a call back or an email. this store has a terrible repuation and they are not honoring the warranty that they are selling which was 280 bucks."

Good luck getting anything to come from that letter. That is one of the most horrid, poorly written letters I've read in my life.

If 12+ years of English/Grammar schooling didn't teach you, me making corrections certainly isn't going to help you.

The above is the reason I did not buy CC's extended warranty when I bought my wife's laptop. CC is and always has been a schlocky operation, and reading the above does not surprise me.

The geek guys at best buy are just a RCH better, if even that much.

I suspect you'll need to improve your tech skills and crack that baby open or pay someone to fix it or get some of your cop buddies to start incessantly ticketing the CC store manager

the bad grammar makes the message you send "wow, that fucker is stupid" not "wow, he needs help with his computer". how long does it take to proofread something you want taken seriously?

anyway... this is why I buy dell. yeah, they are just as junky as anything else, but i get the good warranty and those f'ers are out the next day and the shit is fixed. thats worth it to me.

CC does suck, especially the one in Lewisville.

They are grossly understaffed and don't have half the selection they use to have. I asked an employee to demo me a couple of subs in the listening area and he got pissed because he had to jump behind the rack and hook up a cable.

They are worthless, except for the occasional sale and the sheer convenience.

unfortunately it's not circuit city's problem. the first year's warranty is MFG under that plan.

best buy would probably say the same thing depending on how their warrantly was structured (depending if it started day 1, or day 366).

when i sold we had a more expensive warranty plan that took effect day one regardless of the manufacturer's warranty. people would bitch and say well im paying for warranty when its covered. MFG warranties are typically shit, as you found out the hard way.

in all honestly it's compaq you should be writting the complaint to.

I've used the Best Buy extended warranty when my PS2 died (stop reading DVDs & the on/off button stopped working) & the process went fairly well. They played with it for like 10 mins & then told me "ok if you grab another one off the shelf we'll exchange them".

I also got the difference in what I paid the first time and what the ps2 cost at the time of exchange which I thought was cool. Used the extra 20 bucks and bought the warranty again since it was a few days from expiring. Best Buy gets a thumbs up from me *shrugs*

Besides all the flaming by people you are getting because of your paragraph, I feel your frustration. I recommend only one solution, next time buy a system from Dell. Best Buy, Circuit City, etc… These companies don’t know crap about what they are selling except the system configuration like RAM, screen size, etc… They will push you to get it fixed by the manufacturer because they don’t know anything about these laptops. Dell provides the best warranty service according to which warranty service you buy. They have a easy to use website to get drivers, system info, and warranty status. When I fix Dell systems for my client’s it is so easy to get the parts, drivers, and related software for them. I hate working with Toshiba, HP, Compaq, SONY, etc… Because their parts are so proprietary and their websites sucks for support. Dell has drivers for machines that date back to the first Pentium systems. Other sites stop supporting their systems after they stop making them which sucks for those customers who need drivers, parts, and related software later.

I hope your issue gets the needed attention and gets resolved but next time just get a Dell and I promise you will never buy from anyone else again.

I had a bulb blow in my lcd projection tv that I originally bought from frys. I had also bought the extended warranty. Aside from having to stand at the service counter for 50 minutes (!) watching the service guy running back and forth from the front to the rear of the store multiple times to get signatures and printing off endless pages of paper that I had to sign they did in fact stand behind their warranty and I got a replacement bulb.

As someone that deals with PSP related repairs on a daily basis, I too can vouch for the awesomeness of BBY PSP's (unless we're talking iPods...Apple products ftl). They cover just about everything; even had a guy bring in a laptop that had literally broken into two pieces (not the screen/keyboard, but into two left and right portions). Sent it off to the service center for an estimate; came back "junkout" and customer was in the store the next day for a new computer.

The way I see it is that in 2 or 3 years, you can just trash the thing and get a new computer, paying about 1/4 of the price up front.

Just don't return anything to BB! They will rape you a re-stocking fee.
Anybody have the email? It's on snopes...

Hmmm....I never returned anything to BB and was unaware of that policy. Good to know since I never buy anything cheap from electronic stores. I DID like BB because of the rewards zone point.

Lately though, Costco and then online vendors have better deals.

I agree, Costco is the best for returns. I've never been screwed over. One time I had a 2 yr old monitor with no warranty, box or receipt and they took it back. I grabbed a new one off the shelf for straight exchange.

bringing this thread back up.

as a person in the computer realm, i get a lot of questions and requests about fixing computers. well i ran into this exact problem today... pretty much word for word, a coworker sent her laptop back to HP. HP informs her the laptop has liquid damage and now its toast. it needs a new MOBO. $750.

as soon as i heard this i instantly thought of this thread... well, that makes 2 cases and these 2 links below make 4 and there are many more out there. something tells me HP/Compaq is pulling some BULLSHIT and fucking over peoples laptops. the worst part is if you dont fix it, they break your shit to make it really water damaged.

HP changed warranty centers and I believe their old provider decided to fuck people over.
