Cant stand my video card problem anymore!

Well ever since ATI came up with a new update for my video card, It doesn't recognize the card. When I updated drivers and catalyst software, and rebooted it would never load up windows, at least on the screen. The screen would go blank, and the monitor would turn off. I tried rolling back drivers, uninstalling drivers, and using older drivers all have the same end result on reboot.

I have a AGP ATI x1650 Pro card. Windows XP Pro

ATI sent me some damn link that got me no where.

OS Errors
For users experiencing frequent automatic restarts with and without error messages:
Issues such as these can frequently be resolved by installing the latest versions of your motherboard’s chipset and/or platform drivers. Please read the following article for more information.

AGP Motherboard/Chipset Drivers

Not only do you need display drivers for an AGP graphics card, you also need drivers for your motherboard which enable AGP functionality for the motherboard chipset.

These drivers may be referred to using any of the following names:

AGP Driver
AGP Miniport
AGP VXD Driver
Chipset Driver
GART Driver
VGART
Often you will see the name of a motherboard chipset in connection with these terms. For example:

ALi GART Driver
AMD AGP Miniport
Intel VGART
VIA AGP Driver
I am starting to think it is the card itself, but IDK???

When you download the new driver, are you getting the full install package (with all ATi's crap programs) or just the display driver?

Are you running the auto install program or are you actually going through windows device installer and manually selecting the driver location?

My recommendation is to extract the drivers to a specific location, then go to your device manager, completely uninstall the two display drivers, reboot then manually install the new driver through device manager.

my X1650 is great, no problems from it.

I tried both ways, and windows asks for a file that I don't have, and the only way I can find it is downloading a torrent pack with the file in it. I am not sure if the file is good, the correct file, even know the file name matches, and it has been Six days since I started downloading it (no one is seeding the file).

I am trying restomod66's way of installing the drivers, but the file windows is asking for I cannot find in the driver files I have.

ativvpxx

Is what I need.

EDIT: I fixed the problem with finding that file, I guess. The ativvpxx file is located in the vista driver update for my card. I downloaded it and got the file. everything is ok with the on install, but my video card shows up twice on the device manager, and I cannot install the drivers for the second controller.

I hate my ATI card. I bitched about it when I first bought it because the performance was less than the Elsa Victory I had in the previous machine which was severly outdated. Everyone on here said I was expecting too much. I managed to get it replaced and although it fixed the initial problems I had with it, its performance has been less than those of equal or lesser competition when I attend lan parties. And now after 3 years it appears that it's about to die. Barely had it 3 years and already it will no longer run GTA San Andreas in 32 bit mode, only 16 bit. No more ATI for me ever again.

Well the card this POS replaced was a 7500 All-in-Wonder, with resistors (some kinda shit) missing from the board. Worked just fine, but I was scared about messing my board up with missing parts.

This card is about a year old, so I dont think it went out. All I did was update the damn DRIVERS!!!
