2 wire AT&T DSL Modem

Im stuck with AT&T as my internet provider at the complex I moved to and I wanted to purchase the modem on my own and set it up to save on the installation fees and what not, but I at least asked what they would install themselves if I did have them come out to the house, so I would know what I should be looking for, and they said the 2 wire AT&T DSL Modem was best for hooking up multiple computers & wireless applications...is this spot on? Any AT&T folks on here? They said the DSL should run from 3mbps to 6.....

My at&t dsl sucks and its costing like 68 a month thanks to having to have a stupid land line.

My POS apt complex only allows this as their internet provider.

They claim it can get that fast but when they tried it for me it dropped connection a million times so they throttled it back because their lines were too cruddy to handle it. So now my max download is MAAAAAAAAAYBE 140kbps and upload is 35-38

Yea, sales will make all the promises in the world. But the complex's lines may suck too.

Bleh.

Whats the 2 wire modem do, or what do they claim it does? From the sounds of it is it basically using 2DSL connections and bridging them?

They said (whatever it is) that it makes it so that I can put more than just one computer on the network and even make them wireless. If that's true I hope so for their sake because they bluntly told me that. Im starting to think Im screwed as far as internet goes because Qwest and Blue Wire seem to be even more expensive.

Get their cheapest modem and get a wrt54gl. flash the wrt to DDWRT and you got something that is x50 better than the piece of shit 2wire.

2wire is just a wireless router. Like others said, you can get a much better router, I currently have a Buffalo AirStation WHR-G54S and it has worked great for me. I recommend any of the Buffalo products.

I am currently running a speedstream with a Linkysys 150N. The 54G will do the trick unless you are going to run VoIP
