more details would help

does it get assigned a driver letter?

what is the error message?

can you see any files or folders?

are you connecting the drive to another working system or trying to boot it as the only drive on other hardware?

You just need to take over ownership for them folders. The guide that redneck posted is what you need to do.

I'm trying to do the same thing. My old computer was fried, pulled out the old hard drive and have it hooked up thru USB. It shows up as J drive.

Last time i plugged it in, I was transfering the contents of my pics and my music folders. I have a ton of folders in there so it was taking a while to transfer ownership and then save it on my new hard drive. So now (few weeks later) i go back and plug in the Hard drive again, and now none of those folders are showing up. I dont even see a my pics folder and there is nothing in my music anymore. Any clue to what i'm doing wrong and why i cant see those folders any more?

But not all of the pics within the folders moved over. I'm thinking it might have to do with the denied access/ownership transfer crap. I dont know if i was doing that correctly. I wonder if i can only see part of the files on the drive now because of that.

Is there a way to transfer ownership of the entire hard drive instead of by each folder/file as the above link has directions to?

Do the whole directory and make sure you check the Take over Subfolders/child
