IT gurus, come hither

As some of you may know, my laptop was stolen from my house last week. It contained a shit load of pics that I'd like to get back. Although that's beginning to seem like it's not going to happen.

I'm looking for some utility that can restore deleted files from a hard drive. My old boss use to have some tool that sometimes worked. Something about how Windows only removes the "pointers" to the files and doesn't really delete them unless that area of the disk is over written. The reason for this is because I use to keep all these pictures on a desktop but had moved them to my laptop when the desktop was being used for another purpose. I still have the desktop so I'm hoping I can find a utility and try it. Please let me know, thanks.

Ps, I lost contact with my old boss so I can't ask to borrow it. I'm sure there's others out there that might have something similar. If it works, I'll buy you a case of your favorite beer!

George

lol, no. I'm hoping I can recover files that use to be on my desktop, that I still have access to. At one time, I moved them to the laptop via a memory stick.

The applications I've used in the past have been kind of hit-or-miss. They recover a whole clump of data, and try to piece it together. Some things were restored while others were not.
When I get home, I'll get you the info to the stuff I've used.

This works great but can be expensive depending on how much info you want to recover. If you need a lot recovered and the drive works, send me a PM. I know a guy locally that's very reasonable for this type of service.

Theres an app on hirens boot cd that worked for me, recovered data on a bad hard drive. I believe it has an undelete feature also. You can find that cd on torrent sites or newsgroups.
