better DVD Playing software than Power DVD?

For whatever reason, when I play a DVD in my laptop when using the battery, it locks up.

Is there something else better available or is there a way to make Power DVD better? I tried installing the updates, but all that did was cause a message to appear as it played... and eventually freeze. The message reads, "for optimum performance, please use AC power" or something to that effect.

Thanks

VLC Player is bad ass. Plays just about anything not just DVD's. I use it both on my Mac and on my PC. Great for testing out those Video TS Folders after "backing up" a DVD

I've already noticed the ">>|" button takes me back to the disc menu every time. It doesn't freeze (yet) though.

[edit] n/m apparently there are two sets of controls for skipping fwd and back

so far, so good

It's pretty powerful too. Lots of adjustability and plays almost anything you can throw at it.

the - and + keys on your keyboard will slow or speed up the movie. Spacebar is pause/resume, F for full screen if in windowed mode.

If you want to see more hot keys, do Ctrl+S when you have a video paused then click Interface, then Hot Key settings.

Nice. It played without freezing. That's all I really needed it for.

windows media player works

Like Jose said, VLC rocks for everything but an actual DVD. Funny thing is, it will play a .iso copy of a dvd just fine

What exactly does the k-lite codec pack do?

<--- Not a media expert with computers, but very proficient in just about all other aspects.

Has all the video and audio codecs for the most common file shared (divx, xvid, etc.) videos.
