domain name and server question

My Anatomy and Physiology teacher uses his own website instead of the schools because the school one is not reliable. The address is complicated, but its the address the server service gave him. Its something like www.box.net/public/l54u5udjfj478 or some kind of crap like that.

Anyways, can he register a domain name and have it point to that specific folder ? I figure all the domain does is point to an IP address but not sure if he can make it point to a specific folder. He would need multiple folders on the domain to point to multiple folders on the domain...

something like this:

www.class.com/ap1 ---> www.box.net/public/73743jh43n43
www.class.com/ap2 ---> www.box.net/public/7f7f6e7rrjf78
www.class.com/microbio ---> www.box.net/public/57347477jjndf

He said if it was cheap as just registering a domain name ($10/yr) that he would go for it.

techincally no... he'd need someone to host his domain, then put forwarders up, and more than likely it would be subdomain rather than folders, if he wants it done easily...

like:
ap1.class.com
ap2.class.com
microbio.class.com

I mean I'm not 100 percent sure that I'm correct here, some regestrars may offer that as a service, but in my experience they don't.

I have a bunch of subdomains for my company that redirect to sites on my server at my office, but our main www. site is hosted with godaddy.

WTF, teachers these days. Just have him go out, but some servers, get business class internet at home with about 5 static IPS....register the name to his IPs...build the servers...host his content. Life is good.

Naw, seriously for 10 bux a month that won't be so easy. tinurl or maybe his ISP's provided web space. So an example would be...

www.verizon.net/~teachersname/ap1

My '03 Sold.

there are a few domain redirector services aviable.. for instance i used to have www.jadesupra.net registered... but if you went to www.feldmonster.com it my service would redirect you to www.jadesupra.net/feldmonster it cost about $50 a year
