What wireless router are you running

OK my Road Runner freebe is getting on my last nerves. Its a netgear WGR614 V7 and it has been on and off. When it goes down it takes my computer interent down to. I tried unplugging and resetting but it only lasts for a minute. My cable guy came out and told me it was the signal to the house and a line problem. Well tonight I just ran the ethernet directly to the back of the computer and now no issues. So two weeks with out my x box live is a beating. Any suggestions on modems as far as speed. My teamates in Canada have the same up and download as me but they always seam to have a better room wih less lag. I am starting to think it is my wireless router. I am running RR pro 10 down and 1mb up.

Thinking about hardwiring it but not sure if hardwiring is actually an advantage these days. I saw on one of the review board were this router got a big thumbs down. LOL

Ive been wanting to do that for a while now. Was it hard to change the OS on it? Flash the firmware? I would google but I am too lazy. You have any screen shots of the interface?

I bought this for the house a while back. 2 storys and we run about 5 computers on the network, All wireless except for 2. I havent had any problems with it yet. Not sure on the model number but mine has 4 antennas.

Just make sure you own a version that will work with it. Some of the newer ones have less ram/cpu and will not run some of the optional firmwares.

I like the tomato one cause I can crank the power up, see real time data, and also use it to detect other APs/routers near me

Just go to the page where you would upload linksys code and replace it with the one you download that is supported and voila.

I've run a few variations on mine but settled on tomato a while back

Well did some research and learned a little last night. LOL Went out and got a 69.00 N router by Belkin. All I can say is way better. My laptop and 360 seam to be way quicker on live tasks.

New to Xbox

Can I connect my 2 Wire wireless modem directly to the Xbox? This modem has the router, hub, and modem all built into it for those unfamiliar with it. It's my AT&T DSL modem. I really don't want to buy Bill's overpriced wireless adapter if I can just connect directly to the modem.

Thanks

I stick with Cisco products. D-link is bottom of the line and NetGears'seem to have a mind of their own. Stick with a AirPort or WRT.

Behind the wallplate its just standard phone cable (2 pair), will I not be able to connect the modem directly to the wall jack and then run the ethernet cable from the modem to the Xbox?

I don't understand what you are saying.

If you have DSL, then a phoneline goes into the router, and then from the router cat5 goes to the xbox. you can pull cat5 (4 pair) and change out the wallplate and you will be done.
