I do have a question on this. Does this happen to all X box 360 or just the old ones? I heard that they fixed the new ones is that true?

Because computers never crash? Hard drives never die?

Anyway, if you want to guarantee you've got the new revision 360, look on the box, on the barcode sticker, and you'll want to find the power supply rating. 230W is the old system, avoid at all cost. 175W is the new system, you're golden if you find one.

203W may be a new one, may be an old one. The only way to tell for sure is to actually open the box, and look through the vents and see if there's a heat pipe on the cpu cooler. If there is, it's an old system. If not, it's new. Only settle for the 203W box, if there are no 175W boxes to be had (assuming you are impatient and can't just wait it out until more 175W's hit the market.)

I picked a 175W one up yesterday at Best Buy in Frisco. They're sold out all over Plano, and McKinney. Frisco had 14 as of noon yesterday. I got there around 2:10 and there were only 4 left.

Well, I recently bought a 360 but am a PC Gamer overall. The only counter argument I have is that the PC is easily serviceable by the end user. Shit breaks on it you don't HAVE to send it back to the maker.

But ya, PCs break too.

I've sent two back so far for free. Got a refurb the first time, then bitched enough the second time and got a brand new one manufactured 08/2007. Only took 2-3 weeks for the return shipment.

Haven't had any problems since I got this new one (fingers still crossed)

PC's evolve at a much faster rate and with easily swappable components. They also arnt crammed into a tiny compartment prone to overheating! =P

<-- Owns both a pretty beefy rig and a modded Xbox360.

I got my 360 the first day it came out and two weeks later i got that same problem!! But it took a little less than a month to get it back. 1 week for box to get to your house, 1 week to get back to them, 1 week to fix, and another to get it back to you. Sometimes sooner sometimes later.

So if your 360 is an older one how long do you have until warranty wise they will replace it for you if you get the "ring of death"

Also, what causes it? Overheating?

2 weeks

Microsoft took my box for two weeks. Sent me a brand new one because mine was unrepairable. Thats about the normal for DFW, considering the service center is not that far from us. Also I would not recommend using any sort of intercooler device, they actually will give you the ring of death over time. All they do is interupt the designed power supply to your 360, would you use an 11 volt battery in your car?
