Question A little problem (PC)

Okay, the mouse quit working on my sons computer. It was a cheapie PS2 connection mouse. (Round connection)

I bought a USB mouse still nothing. I said fuck it, and reformatted the PC (Win XP) and neither mouse is working during the OS install. WTF?

Did something go bad on the mobo?

..

Sounds like the mouse controller/motherboard is bad. If the pc has usb ports, just get a USB mouse.

I know I'm asking for advice, but, uh, I did say in my original post I also tried a USB mouse....

sounds like either a bios setting you might need to change..OR the serial bus went dead which means new motherboard and processor.

I can't change anything in the BIOS, it's an HP computer I bought back in 2004.

I think the serial bus is down. Every once in a while, it'll register a right click, but that's it.

Oh well. The little guy has a PS3, and a PSP.

I would just go buy a cheap motherboard combo and build a new PC unless you are attached to this computer. Another option you could get by with would be to buy a PCI add on USB card.

I'll eventually grab another mobo combo, i'm just not really in a hurry.

Hunt4m3x, it's not the drivers. The shit is fucked up. Even during the OS install, it's not working.

during xp, you do not get the usb drivers until you update to sp1. you can get also the drivers from the cd that came with the mobo if you made it yourself or from here....

I appreciate the input, but my copy of XP is SP2. And it's not only the USB mouse not working. The PS2 mouse isn't working either. From my experience, I've never needed drivers for a mouse, to install an OS.... Thats a little redundant.

Thanks anyway.

some people are like slinkies; they're completely useless, but still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
