PS2 games look weak on new TV

I got a 42 inch Panasonic 720p plasma and I love it. The wife got me Madden for Xmas and when I fired it up it looked horrible. I'm not really all that worried as I don't play games often anymore. I'm just wondering why games look so bad when DVD's look just fine?

PS2 is not HD. What connections are you using? That has alot to do with picture quality also, but it's time for you to upgrade to PS3.

I bought an S-video cable back in the day when I bought the PS2 and I'm using that. I don't turn it on to play games more than 5 or 6 times a year so a PS3 would be a waste of money for me, even with the blu-ray capabilities.

I might spend $50 or less on a cheap upconverting DVD player, but honestly for my needs the PS2 does just fine for DVD's. I don't even have a home theater system. I've got the TV, the PS2, and the HD satelite reciver. I know I'm behind the times but that's how I roll.

Guess I should of posted this in the Media Room forum...

same thing here on my hd dlp. i'm not sure if the s-video cable is progressivescan capable, but the ps2 is progressive scan capable so you might try the ps2 component cable wherever you can find one, and that should help.

you can get the better input cables(red, green, blue and audio) for the ps2 and the picture will look better, not as good as a ps3 but better.

Okay, just use the Component cables for the PS2 and it will help the picture look cleaner. The games look crappy because that's just how it looks.

I see. What cable did the PS2 come with? I don't think I even have it around anymore, but I don't think it was component so I guess it doesn't matter.

They come with the standard rca cables, the s-vid cables help on older tvs and the component cable helps with newer tvs

What aspect on the TV are you watching it in? 16:9 and you will be stretching the pic causing it to probably look like shit. 4:3(or vice versa) is what it should be playing in.

I already played with the aspect ratio and that's not it. I'm going to pick up a component cable today at BB with a gift card. That should do it.

Whoa! A component cable from BB is over $50! My PS2 is not even worth that.

Found this though.

9.99 for shipping is probably inflated 50% if its boxed and sent usps.
its not bad considering the cable is .99 cents when it retails for $50 and "cost" was near $30

11 dollars for good cables is a deal.

Also found this at Monoprice. How is component any better than RCA cables? The connectors look exactly the same.

There's a million of these on ebay. I guess they're probably all the same.
